"Boom Blox 2 underway"

Electronic Arts shuts down Blueprint, making Boom Blox 2

The Blueprint model is also being used on a previously undisclosed, but none-too-surprising, project: "Boom Blox 2." (not the official title) Apparently work is already underway on a sequel to the spring's innovative Wii puzzle game, which got very good reviews (especially from me) and and sold decently, last we heard. But whie development is being led out of EALA, where the first "Boom Blox" was made, people are working on it together from all over the world. "Everybody is integrated, regardless of whether they're in the same physical location," explained the ex-Blueprinter. "It's truly the spirit of what Blueprint was going to be."
Parece que está confirmado.

Boom Blox Bash Party
By David Ward
SAN DIEGO (Hollywood Reporter) - Steven Spielberg and Electronic Arts are teaming for the second game in their partnership, "Boom Blox Bash Party," which will be available in the spring for the Nintendo Wii.
The new game is a sequel to last year's "Boom Blox" and promises increased multiplayer action and more than 400 new levels that take players from under water into outer space.
"'Boom Blox Bash Party' is a wild social gaming experience," Spielberg said. "We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original 'Boom Blox' together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with 'Boom Blox Bash Party.'"
Among the new features the game will offer is an online component that enables users to download additional levels from Electronic Arts as well as other "Boom Blox Bash Party" players.
The announcement of the sequel comes just as the Entertainment Software Association released a study noting a surge in family-friendly titles, which now account for more than half of all game sales.
The "Boom Blox" franchise is the result of a 2005 deal between EA and Spielberg to collaborate on three original properties.
The original "Boom Blox" is one of the finalists for 2008 Family Game of the Year at next month's Interactive Achievement Awards presented by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

Entrevista:

Boom Blox Bash Party Interview
We check with EA on level sharing, possible download pricing, and if this counts as Spielberg's second of three projects

Can you elaborate on how level sharing works online? Will EA approve each level? What will be the process from creating a level to seeing it appear online?

Amir Rahimi:
Once a user has created a new level, they can submit it to EA. EA will review submitted levels, filter out any inappropriate content, and make a selection of them available to the community. This process does not apply to the Wii Friends feature. Users will have unfiltered access to any level created by anyone on their Wii Friends list. Users can also search for and rate the levels that are made available.

Additionally, EA will periodically provide additional levels that have been created by the development team available for download. These new levels will consist of brand new content that builds on the many great game modes offered in Boom Blox Bash Party as well as classic levels from the original Boom Blox.

How would you compare the level sharing system to the one in Little Big Planet?

AR:
Our focus when building the level sharing system for Boom Blox Bash Party was to make it as easy as possible to gain access to post-launch content generated by EA and by users. For example, when a player enters a multiplayer mode, they can either play the levels that are on the disc, or with a single click, they can connect to the level sharing system and gain access to every level of the same game mode that is available online. They can then save these levels to play later, remix, and upload. Also, players will have the ability to do text searches, allowing them to search for very specific levels or game modes.

Will there be any costs involved with downloading EA-created or user-created levels?

AR:
The only costs the user will incur are their own Internet costs. There will not be an additional charge from EA to download levels.

Initially, EA announced that you guys had signed a three project deal with Spielberg. Being a sequel, does this count as the second of those three?

AR:
Our partnership is for three new original franchises so as a sequel, Boom Blox Bash Party does not count as one of those three.
