LG Announces 55LH95, 55LH93 "Full LED" TVs

LG Announces 55LH95, 55LH93 "Full LED" TVs

http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/news/2009/06/25/LG-Announces-55LH95--55LH93--Full-LED--TVs/p1

Just how many LEDs do you need in your LED-backlit TV to call it a "full LED" set? According to LG, 3,360 is, as well as apparently being seven times more than existing edge-lit TVs, about right. And that's exactly how many it's crammed into the 55LH95 and 55LH93 55in LED-backlit TVs.

Both TVs have Full HD resolutions - as if you would expect anything else - and feature 5,000,000:1 contrast ratios assisted by local dimming, with those 3,360 LEDs split into 240 groups of 14. 240Hz processing - which, of course, we PAL viewers will get as 200Hz if and when a UK launch is forthcoming - promises to deliver silky smooth moving images.
LG has offered to explanation as to the difference between the two sets, other than the 55LH95 costing slightly more. The two models are both touted as 'ultra-slim' measuring 24.8mm at their thickest point - a figure achieved by moving the guts of the TV to a separate unit. To that end, the 55LH93 and 55LH93 both feature an "enhanced wireless feature which eliminates the need for image compression." LG claims its wireless tech will stream video content to the 55LH93 and 55LH95's screens "without any degradation."

Less expensive 47in and 42in LED sets are promised by the end of the year, although those won't be as ultra-slim as the 55in screens, apparently. No word on whether a UK release is forthcoming; we can but hope. If you fancy a trip to Korea to pick one up you'll want to take ₩7 million (£3335) and ₩7.8 million (£3621) with you for the 55LH93 and 55LH95 respectively.
