AC Ryan they are not using the 128x series, but are using a new processor specifically geared for HD playback unlike the 128x series which is geared towards DVB-t and PVR devices. AC Ryan has opted for the RTD 1073 processor which they claim they are one of the first manufacturers to utilise.

While usually all threads discussing new players are balanced between people liking the unit and some others believing the unit fails on them, the Mede8er keeps impressing users who acquired the unit either from the buy-in or stores. That's a good sign as it confimrs our internal review stating it is the most balanced RealTek in price / feature / performance. Only one device could impress me more but comes at almost twice the price, which is the DViCo TViX M-6600.

While discussions point towards the Mede8er having 128MB of system ram available while the competition in general has 256MB, I can only say I'd wish the competition worked as stable and good as the Mede8er and it adds to the surprise a less spec'd device performs better than some of the competition. Never the less, we looked ahead to the future where Mede8er as the other players will need to start supporting BD ISO and other "stuff" we need. According to Larry Kahn: "It won't be a problem. BD ISO is already working fine and will come first quarter 2010."

Larry Kahn confirmed, there's no known issue or limitation that applies to having 128MB system ram available which is sufficient for what the product is designed to do. We can only interpret this that on other players hardly 128MB is used even though it has 256MB. Who knows it's one of those "spec" things that make a player look better

As for firmware updates, unfortunately the expected 1.2.3 firmware will not make it in time due to the SDK changing too much. In addition, Mede8er confirmed the testing revealed few issues that makes them uncomftable releasing the update for the public. Instead, an intermediate update based on the older SDK will be provided eventually (1.2.2a) which will address few issues that were going to be addressed in the 1.2.3 release as well. With this action at least some of the fixes are provided while waiting for the big move towards the new SDK.

No dates, as they only raise expectations...
We keep watching out for updates and report back if anything is worth telling.
