EVGA, a company known for their lifetime warranties on many products has now upgraded it’s “basic” warranty to 3 years while allowing users to purchase an extended warranty of up to 10 years.
Some of you may remember critique we had about EVGA’s choice to include a disappointing 1-year (two years with registration) warranty on certain premium cards like their
GTS 450 FTW. It seems like they have listened to our thoughts and have essentially brought their entry-level warranty up to the standards of the competition by now offering over a 3 year time frame. However, as we have come to expect from EVGA they have added an interesting wrinkle into the fabric of this story: the ability to further extend the warranty by purchasing “upgrades” for a nominal price.
Before we get into the upgrade possibilities, let’s touch upon who this will change EVGA’s product stack. While the “-TR” branded cards will stay around for the time being, this SKU will be immediately phased out and replaced with “-KR” products which means any EVGA card bought after January 1st 2011 will carry with it a minimum 3-year warranty term. This will not be dependent upon product registration either but we still recommend you register your product since additional services and software are available to EVGA members. Buyers of “-AR” Lifetime Warranty totting GPUs will still need to register within 30 days of purchase in order to receive the full coverage length but if the 30 days expires, the length will now default to three years instead of one.
The most interesting aspect of EVGA’s new system is its ability to offer additional coverage lengths at predetermined prices. Much like an extended warranty when purchasing a car, this allows consumers to tailor the terms to their liking…for a price of course.
As you can see, the extended warranties are quite affordable and they carry with them entry into EVGA’s Step-Up program as well.
