Zopo ZP200 has caught a lot of attention since it is China’s first glasses-free 3D mobile phone. Other Chinese 3D phones are now starting to emerge following Zopo’s lead. So how does the ZP200’s specs fare in the smartphone arena? Let’s find out…
Appearance
What catches your eye initially is the large 4.3-inch Sharp ASV 3D screen. It’s qHD resolution of 540 × 960 pixels appears quite clear. Comparing it with another 3D phone, LG P920, the resolution of ZP300 is higher (LG P920 480 x 800 pixels). The 3D experience on ZP200 is good. 3D wallpapers can be enjoyed, as well as 3D movies and games. And thanks to the ZP300’s Sharp AVS display, viewing the screen outdoors under direct sunlight is not a problem.
The body shell is made of plastic. At the top are the headphone socket and power button. Looking at the left side are the volume keys. On the right side, the Micro-USB and HDMI ports are located. The HDMI port is a great feature since only a few smartphones, including the top brands, support this function. Through the HDMI port, ZP200 can be connected to a TV or a projector. You can enjoy slideshows of pictures or watch movies on a bigger screen. However, one thing that is lacking is a physical camera button on the body. But I guess it is not much of an issue if you don’t mind clicking the camera button on the interface.
Hardware
ZOPO ZP200 runs on MediaTek MT6575 1 GHz CPU. It has a RAM of 1 GB and a ROM of 4 GB, with around 3 GB available to the user. If this is not enough, you can expand the memory up to 32 GB with a TF card. With the ample amount of RAM and ROM, expect this phone to perform fast, even with multiple applications running at the same time. 3D games also run smooth on ZP200. Furthermore, the CPU is built on the ARM V7 instruction set. With this, online streaming videos play smoothly. Browsing the internet is quite fast.
ZP200’s operating system is Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread. Using Gingerbread on the phone is smooth. But it would be much better if Android 4.0 was installed. Fortunately, ZOPO announced that an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) upgrade for this phone will be available soon. This is one advantage of ZOPO. They have good support for their consumers. If successfully integrated to ZP200, ICS will greatly improve its performance.
Connection
Like most Chinese phones, ZOPO ZP200 is dual SIM, dual standby. SIM 1 supports 3G WCDMA or GSM network while SIM 2 supports only GSM. The phone is quad band GSM, thus, it works everywhere in the world. The GSM frequencies are 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. For 3G WCDMA, it serves HSPDA or UMTS 850/2100 MHz. ZP200 has WiFi and WiFi Hotspot function, bluetooth, synchronization via Exchange ActiveSync, and GPS.
Camera
The rear camera of the ZP200 is a Sony 8.0 megapixel camera with Auto-Focus and LED flash. Yes, it is actually a genuine Sony camera. It captures good photos ranging from bright light to dim light conditions. I will post some sample pictures taken by the camera soon. Meanwhile, camera support features include multi-angle shooting, panorama, automatic scene detection and others.
Battery
ZOPO ZP200 is different from other phones when it comes to battery since it has the option of using two batteries at a time. The main battery is 1250mAh. Yes, it is too small for a large-screen smartphone. That’s why you have an option to add an external case cover battery of 1450mAh. With the external battery, the total capacity is 2700mAh. This significantly prolongs the phone’s working time. Take note, however, that only the main 1250mAh Li-ion battery is included in the package. The external battery is sold separately.
Summary
The phone’s hardware and software are impressive overall. The 3D function is a great feature on the smartphone, although it may not be necessary for some people. For me, the HDMI port is the one that I’m more interested on. On the other hand, the only disadvantage I can think of is the 1250mAh main battery, which I believe will not last very long. But you can buy an optional external case cover battery to address this problem.
There is no doubt that ZOPO has become one of China’s fast growing smartphone companies. With innovations like ZP200’s 3D features and reliable hardware, ZOPO has produced an affordable 3D smartphone that has great value for its price of approximately US$279. Plus, ZOPO provides its customers with good after-sales customer support. I would definitely recommend ZP200 if you want a fast affordable phone and especially if you want the extra features like the 3D function and HDMI port.
