LG’s Optimus G served as the basis of the Nexus 4 and now the rumors suggest that the South Korean company is working on the successors of both. An alleged image of the Optimus G2 was posted on Twitter, which shows thinner bezels than the Optimus G.
This image is also similar to the one that was posted several days ago - it’s hard to tell if it’s the same device because of the different angles and lighting conditions.

Anyway, the LG Optimus G2 is rumored to have a 5" 1080p screen and be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset with the CPU clocked as high as 2GHz. That’s going by the AnTuTu benchmarks that we saw earlier this month, which also show at least three different versions of the phone, running Android 4.1.2 and 4.2.2.

LG-G2-leak.jpg

LG execs first hinted about “something unique” in their upcoming G2 flagship design back in April.Almost the same day the rumor appeared, saying that this unique feature is the thinness of the device. The G2 flagship will be so thin, that there’s not enough space to put buttons on the side of it. So LG has moved physical keys to the back. The rumor didn’t sound all that credible at the time. I mean – control buttons on the back of the smartphone?! C’mon.Well, turns out that those rumors were spot-on. Today @evleaks posted pictures from G2 presentation LG gave to someone. And they indeed show an incredibly thin device, with volume controls on the back, behind the main camera. And now, with those pics, we know almost all there is to know about LG G2. Its specs include:
  • 5” 1080p Full HD display with thin bezel
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU
  • 2 GB of RAM
  • 13 megapixel camera
The only missing piece is the battery inside. And, well, whether G2 will have a flexible display. (Most likely not). With all the important G2 details out there, LG may as well go and announce it without waiting for August 7th. There are no surprises left anyway.Or at least they could launch the Korean version of LG G2 for LTE Advanced networks announced today. This would help them to catch up to Samsung, which, in the absence of competition, is having a field day today with Galaxy S4 LTE-A.

LG’s upcoming flagship Android smartphone, the G2, has gotten a new round of leaked specs today. We’ve already seen purported pictures of the device not once, but twice already, and it’s pretty clear that it will be crazy thin – and will come with the buttons on the back, not the sides (since apparently it’s too thin for that). What we also knew so far, this time thanks to LG itself, is that the G2 will sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, which makes sense since that’s ‘the’ mobile chipset of the moment (and will power most of the flagships for the second half of the year).

However, up until now we assumed that the G2 will be fitted with a 5-inch touchscreen. According to some unconfirmed information coming in from Techblog though, the size will actually be 5.2 inches. Obviously the Full HD 1080p resolution will be kept. The G2 has been spotted having insanely thin bezels, so the Korean company may have been able to fit an ever so slightly larger display into a chassis that isn’t bigger than those of smartphones with 5-inch screens. The camera on the back will be a 13 MP unit, once again standard for the high-end in this day and age (well, except for HTC, which is going its own ‘ultrapixel’ way). The camera will feature optical image stabilization (OIS), which is quickly becoming popular with Android makers after debuting on Nokia Windows Phones. These are all the new details we have for today, but rest assured that by August 7, when the LG G2 is rumored to be announced, we’ll know absolutely everything there is to know about this handset.

The LG G2 has leakednumeroustimes already. This is why we mostly have a handle on the specs it will have – 5.2" 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB RAM, Android 4.2.2, 13MP camera and 2,540mAh battery.
We even saw several teaser videos that don't really give away anything but the taglines "To me, you are perfect" and "Learning from you" and show a short glimpse of the characteristic back with two buttons next to the camera.
Now there are a couple of new leaked images of the LG G2, which show a potential change in design. The curved back covered in glossy plastic can be seen in four different color versions – Black, Blue, Red and Purple. That's a departure from the clean glass look of the Optimus G and G Pro.

Leaked images show different colors

At the same time, the teaser site is available in two color versions – White and Black. Clicking between the two nothing but the background changes. Is this a slight hint that the G2 will stick to the black and white colors of its predecessor? Those could be snap-on back panels as one observant reader points out. We'll find out for sure on August 7.
The good news is the event will be livestreamed, so you can watch the unveiling live. We'll put up the video when the time comes and we'll have people on the ground to bring you live photos and first-hand impressions.
Korean publication Khan throws in some more info – the LG G2 will reportedly launch in early August in South Korea, not long after the announcement, then in the US in September. Europe and the rest of the world will get the smartphone in October.

Abandoning the Optimus branding for its highest-end devices, today LG finally announced their latest flagship - the LG G2.

At 5.2-inches, the LG G2 has a slightly bigger screen than the current crop of high-end smartphones. The resolution however, is the same at 1920 x 1080 px. The screen is a IPS unit with a brightness rating of 450nits. The LG G2 display uses something called Graphic RAM (GRAM) to reduce power consumption up to 26% when displaying a still image. LG claims this increases the expected overall battery life by up to 10%.

What's particularly striking about the phone is ultra-slim bezel and the lack of any hardware keys on the front (or sides, for that matter).

gsmarena_001.jpg

The only hardware key is actually positioned on the back. It's actually a combo of several buttons in one. That's the power/sleep key dead center along with the volume keys. The volume keys also double as shortcuts for the camera and Quick Memo feature. The reason behind the decision to position this key here is to make handling extra large smartphones easier and less prone to dropping.

The LG G2 is based around a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. According to Qualcomm's CEO, who appeared in stage today, the G2 is the first phone to launch on a world-wide scale with this top-shelf processor.

The storage capacity is set at either 16GB or 32GB. Supposedly, there is a microSD slot as well, but it seems that will only be available in certain markets and the units LG brought to NYC didn't have such a thing.

The 13MP camera is on par with the rest of the top notch hardware. It's got optical image stabilization (OIS) and can record FullHD 1080p videos in up to 60fps.

LG has also worked hard on the quality of audio output. The phone can reproduce Hi-Fi 24 bit/192kHz. LG has also collaborated with the Vienna Boy's Choir to freshen up the available sounds and ringtones on the device.

The LG G2 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.

As customary for Android flagships, the LG G2 offers several proprietary features to differentiate. You can double tap on the screen to wake it up and tap again to turn it back off. The phone will readily auto answer a call when you pick it up to your ear. There is an innovative Guest mode to secure the privacy of your data when friends want to check out your new smartphone or when you hand down your phone to your kid.

Finally, you can get rid of a currently active app and minimize it by a three-finger swipe across the screen.

Speaking of multi-tasking, the G2 can store your app progress in up to three different apps. The screenshotting feature can capture a whole webpage or a long email, not just the content in your viewport.

The LG G2 also has an Infrared port that can be used to remotely control home entertainment devices by learning from their conventional remotes.

Connectivity-wise, the LG G2 makes use of the latest generation LTE-A connectivity (up to 150Mbps), as well as dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

For power backup, the LG G2 relies on a 3,000mAh Li-Po battery.

LG G2 will be available in black or white and will launch to over 130 carriers in the next eight weeks starting in South Korea, followed by North America, Europe and other key markets.
