[h=1]HTC W8: A "high specs, mid-price" Windows Phone, coming Q3[/h] Andy Weir

HTC hasn't been sharing much love with Windows Phone in recent months. In fact, it hasn't actually launched a new device running Microsoft's mobile OS since WP8 launched back in late 2012 (well, apart from the very slightly refreshed 8XT for Sprint).

Back in March, a rumour surfaced suggesting that HTC was planning to launch a Windows Phone version of its newest Android flagship, the One M8. Then last month, perennial leaker @evleaks revealed the name of HTC's next Windows Phone - the W8 - along with the news that it was destined for Verizon in the US.

This is just a mock-up rather than the real deal - but the real W8 could launch as soon as next month
Today, @evleaks has added to this info with a couple of extra details. First, he reveals that the device will be launching in Q3 of this year, meaning that it could arrive as early as next month (or perhaps as late as September), and reiterates that it will be available on Verizon. It is not yet clear if the device will be a Verizon exclusive, or if HTC plans to launch it on other US carriers, or in other markets.

He also reveals that the W8 will be based on a new Android handset known currently as the A9. According to a report on Focus Taiwan from early May, the A9 is being lined up as a device with "high specifications", but with a mid-range price tag. Not much more is known about that handset, but it is expected to launch in a matter of weeks, with an announcement expected in late Q2 or early Q3.
High specs but without the high price sounds like a pretty tasty combination, but we'll of course have to wait and see just what HTC has in store. According to @evleaks, the company will bring its BoomSound audio enhancement feature to the new Windows Phone, along with the Duo camera that also features in the HTC One M8.

Novo nome: HTC One (M8) for Windows

HTC's next Windows Phone is coming to Verizon with an awkward name

More than a few eyebrows were raised when talk surfaced of an HTC One for Windows Phone. How close would it be to the Android original? Would it bring anything new to the table? And what's the name, for that matter? Thankfully, sources for Engadget are happy to answer a few questions. For a start, they tell us that the device is tentatively called the "One (M8) for Windows." Yeah, that's not exactly going to roll off the tongue -- the device's codename, W8, is considerably more elegant.

Other details we've received mostly corroborate what we've seen from @evleaks, with one surprise. In addition to the previously hinted-at presence of features from the Android-based One, like BoomSound speakers and the depth-sensing Duo camera, the One for Windows will also support voice over LTE -- Windows Phone users shouldn't have to wait long to try high-quality calls for themselves.

It's not clear whether or not the device will ship with VoLTE out of the box, but Windows Phone 8.1's GDR1 revision (aka Update 1) should add support if it's not ready on launch. The release isn't far away, either. Our tipsters back earlier claims that the Microsoft-powered One is expected to reach at least Verizon during the third quarter, or no later than the end of September.

Curioso para ver se isto é só para os Estados Unidos ou será um lançamento global.

Verizon to get HTC One (W8) for Windows Phone on August 21

Reports that HTC would be reconfiguring their popular Android based One M8 for Windows Phone have been circulating for months with Verizon as the flag bearer, but details of the device – and release – are now coming into focus. Tonight, Engadget is reporting that the name of the phone is called "One (M8) for Windows," which is a little awkward, although if you drop the M8 it has a nice ring to it.

Engadget reports that they phone should launch by on "Verizon during the third quarter, or no later than the end of September" although our sources tell us that Microsoft Stores have a planning date of August 20 with a launch on the 21st. The off-contract, full price of the phone is listed at $610 with on-contract price most likely nearing $199. The name is also confirmed as "One (M8) for Windows" according to documents we have seen.

Indeed, Microsoft Stores are getting ready to take stock of numerous accessories, including the Dot View case that leverages the new 'smart cover' feature found in Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1. The One M8 for Windows comes in silver, as expected and since cases like Otterbox and Speck with the M8 designation are in the plan, it is very likely that the W8 is an exact clone of the M8. Interestingly, the W8 is the first Windows Phone to support Voice over LTE (VoLTE), which is once again yet another feature of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, making this phone highly likely to ship with the update on board.

There is no word, at the moment, of other carriers are following Verizon, as so far they are the only one listed as launching the phone, leaving AT&T users on the side.

Finally, the W8 is supposed to sport BoomSound and Duo cameras, with the former giving a significant boost in audio and the latter greatly improving the imaging.
More information is expected in the coming weeks. For now, you can read the full review of the Android HTC One M8 at Android Central to see what is in store.

Anyone here excited about the prospect of picking up the HTC One for Windows? Let us know.
