Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is now the biggest digital day one launch ever for the publishers, beating Call of Duty: WWII's numbers from last year and making it quite the success.
Black Ops 4 not only set the record of being the strongest day one digital sale on the PlayStation Store but it was also Xbox One's best-selling digital title for Activision. But despite digital sales skyrocketing, physical sales have been the lowest the series has seen in 11 years with them being nearly 50% down from WWII.
The drop in physical sales could be a sign that consumers are slowly opting more for digital copies of games rather than physical. On top of that, another point which may have swayed players to purchase digital is the huge day one patch that owners of the physical copy would have to download. Digital users just needed to download the base game as it would already have the patch implemented whereas physical copies not only have to install the game disc but would also have to wait around while a 50 GB patch would download.
Needless to say, it's still been a pretty solid launch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and you can read more about what we thought of the game
