New Need for Speed set for Reveal at Gamescom

EA has announced during its latest quarterly earnings call that it will be revealing the latest entry in its long-running Need For Speed series just before Gamescom later this year.

As part of the conference call, which you can read the transcript of here, CEO Andrew Wilson said "We’ll take the wraps off our new Need for Speed game heading into Gamescom in a few weeks." The upcoming game was first announced via a blog post back in May.

Further details are, naturally, sparse at the moment - but IGN spotted a listing on an Austrian retailer Gameware (since removed) that has listed the upcoming title's name as Need for Speed: Heat, with placeholder box art based on artwork for mobile title Need for Speed: No Limits. It seems we'll find out for sure in a couple of weeks, as Gamescom takes place on the 20th August, 2019.

Need for Speed Heat Won't Have loot Boxes, EA Confirms

Having previously labelled its loot boxes as "surprise mechanics", EA has confirmed that Need for Speed Heat will feature no such thing, with loot boxes apparently getting the heave-ho for the latest entry in the fast and furious street racing series.

"There are no Lootboxes in NFS Heat and there won't be," EA DICE Community Manager Ben Walke revealed in a post on Reddit (via VideoGamer). Of course, Need for Speed Payback had its own poorly received loot box system, whereby upgrades for your chosen ride were dispensed by slot machines and loot boxes.

"We plan to have post launch paid-DLC in the form of car packs," Walke added when pressed on the nature of Heat's post-launch plans. "Honestly, that's it. No loot boxes and the above." The first of these packs will be a 'time-saver' pack that will reveal the location of all collectibles on the Palm City map.

So there you have it. Need for Speed Heat will be heading to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on 8th November, while a Play First Trial will be available for EA Access members from 5th November.

Need for Speed Heat Full Car List Revealed

Ghost Games has blown the lid open on NFS Heat info. Now gamers have access to the entire car list for the upcoming game, just over two months before launch.

The full list comes only a week after the initial reveal of the NFS Heat. We spotted a fair amount of cars in that first trailer, and the new Studio mobile customization app confirmed a few more. But not the full 127 cars.

Yes, that’s the right number. At launch, NFS Heat will feature 127 cars across various categories. That’s substantially more than the other titles this generation. In fact, it just pips the previous NFS record holder — Shift 2 Unleashed — at least at launch.

In terms of representation, BMW, Nissan, and Porsche get the most, with 13 models each. There are a lot of drop-top versions of vehicles in the game, which does go some way to explaining that big headline figure. There are still some surprises however, like this year’s 50th anniversary Nissan 370Z, or more 991.2-gen Porsche 911s than any other title.

You can check out the full list below, and stay tuned for more info on the game over the coming days.
