A versão mais popular e diria eu mais polida é o Ubuntu que utiliza o Gnome como X.
Mas o Ubuntu existe em vários sabores diferentes

Instalação:

Têm duas opções. Usam o live CD ou o alternate. Se usarem o ultimo a instalação é em modo texto como antes. Podem ver os passos na thread para a versão 5.10

Instalação a partir do LiveCD

Imagem que aparece quando o CD faz Boot:

Antes de entrar no ambiente de trabalho

Para iniciar a instalação basta clicarem no Install

Idioma de instalação e em que fica depois o Ubuntu

Horas e data. Podem com o rato clicar em Portugal.

Teclado

Os vossos dados. O Username tem que ser sempre em minusculas. Escolham uma password segura.

Partições. O exemplo neste caso é para utilizarem o disco inteiro.

Confirmação de toda a info.

Instalação. Podem estar a navegar na net

Altura de fazer restart...

Nesta primeira vez têm que clicar em Enter em determinada altura ele avisa. Podem pensar que ele pendurou mas não.

Ai está ele ao vivo e a cores já instalado.

Instalação no modo consola. Ainda não descobri o comando para instalar deste modo. Deve ser muito semelhante às versões anteriores:

Xen 3.0 no Ubuntu

Sources.list possível. É internacional. Logo que alguem disponibilize algum nacional será colocado aqui.
este é o meu que como não tenho diferenciação entre tráfego Inter e nacional é o que uso:

Para os iniciados: sempre que aparece o # antes de um repositório ele não será utilizado. Basicamente é como se não estivesse ali.
Sempre que alterarem a sources.list tm que fazer sudo apt-get update numa consola para actualizarem os repositórios.

Nunca joguei nada de especial.
Mantenho o portátil com Windows por necessidade. Mas o dia a dia quando estiver em casa é aqui mesmo

Participem com links e sugestões ou tutoriais.
Esta versão do Ubuntu vai ser usada durante muito tempo. A versão a sair em outubro vai ser bleeding edge. Para quem gosta de brincar vai ser excelente mas não deve ser (espero enganar-me ) para usar no dia a dia.
Por isso já sabem.

Mudei o Desktop para Linux. E não há volta atrás

O lançamento do 6.06 vai ser apenas no dia 1 de junho mas penso que já podemos fazer desta thread a definitiva pq pouca coisa vai mudar. E o que mudar eu vou actualizando na medida do possível.

Fiz quote do que tenha escrito no 1º post... Eu não disse que já tinha sido lançado. Mas a info já começa a ficar compilada. pouco vai mudar e se mudar cá estamos para editar.

que queria formatar isto e instalar de raiz de novo, mas não queria esperar até ao verão... :\

Em principio sim. Pq se se consegue fazer update do Breezy para o Dapper...

lembrei-me de outra coisa. O Dapper vai sair em junho pq decidiram polir mais umas coisas. principalmente a parte das traduções para liguas asiáticas em particular e documentação. É de notar que há imensas coisas e ainda falta mais de um mês. Quer dizer alguma coisa.

Eu vou experimentando. Possivelmente qd sair já terei para aqui uns problemas que só conseguirei resolver com um reinstall. Mas até lá aprende-se

Desculpem a insistência mas alguém já fez o upgrade do Breezy através de:

gksudo "update-manager -d"

.

É que a minha dúvida mantem-se:

a alteração da sources-list será feita só depois disto (upgrade) não é?
Já tentei ver no fórum deles mas não tive resposta.

Sim, a maneira mais segura de fazer o upgrade é:

ires á consola (ctrl+alt+F1)

e fazeres sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

eu fiz esse comando e não tive de mexer nos repositórios
só depois de ter feito a actualização é que alterei os repositórios pq tinha # em todos menos no pt.qqcoisa que vem por defeito

Adicionados no 1º post imagens do OSdir para todos os sabores do Ubuntu.

Hoje experimentei o Ubuntu em portugês e não está nada mal. Não é perfeito mas está muito bom.
Já não há desculpa mesmo para quem não pesca nada de Inglês.

Entretanto o Firefox não me crash no ubuntu como faz no Windows mas pede para ser fechado
Fica tipo arrastão espanhol. Fechando e voltando a abrir fica tudo bem.
