A next-gen Game Boy by Xmas?

It’s been pretty much an open secret since the middle of last year that Nintendo is working on a new Game Boy—they’ve always been clear that the DS was never intended to be the successor to the Game Boy Advance—and it looks like the new console could be out as early as Christmas, at least according to industry analyst/gossip hound P.J. McNealy. No word on what it might be called (the one name we keep hearing is “Game Boy Evolution”, though that isn’t necessarily it), but McNealy predicts it’ll retail for $99 and Nintendo prez Satoru Iwata could announce the next Game Boy as early as March 10th.

UPDATE: SPOnG, a site we wouldn’t exactly describe as reliable, is claiming that the next-gen GBA will definitely be shown off at E3 in May and that it’ll look a lot like the PSP—large LCD screen, analog controls—and be based on the GameCube’s technology and connect to the upcoming Revolution console. They’re also saying confirming those rumors that were going around about Nintendo is licensing the Palm OS for the DS, and that they’ll announce this at E3 as well. Take this as you will.

iria ser bom... mas kuanto ao Palm OS acho k é wishful thinking dos fãs a nintendo não é muito adepta de coisas multimédia que não jogos, abordagens diferentes/divertimento, um palm OS sai totalmente de fora disso, faço figas... mas duvido muito, e sem vir com a consola qual o ponto de o lançar?

kuanto ao gb evo... é possivel, mas eu sou um bocado contra a introdução de uma gamecube portatil, pelas razões k já disse noutro tópico, não acho viável para a bateria, pelo menos por enkuantoseria interessante mas não sei se compraria, mas era giro ver resident evil 4 portatil e as cabazadas k tal coisa daria numa psp, ainda assim e assim como sou contra a psp neste campo... não me pareçe o melhor caminho a seguir ainda numa consola portatil, exige sacrificios

Se já começa a haver telemoveis (no japão) com Fuel Cells, não me espantava que as próximas consolas portáteis também viessem com uma... ou não!

Os planos da Nintendo estão bem definidos e a DS n foi erro nenhum... aliás n tem o nome GAME BOY por alguma razão!
E desde cedo anunciaram q a DS n foi pensada para competir com a PSP e n é a sucessora do GBA.

Quanto à data de lançamento e preço é que duvido mt dessa notícia... para já iria prejudicar as vendas da DS e depois acho o preço terá de ser superior talvez na ordem dos 200€... mas nunca se sabe.

Eu continuo a pensar comprar uma DS no dia 11 de Março

Acho quase impossível que lancem uma nova consola portátil já este ano..

Isso iria "canibalizar" completamente as vendas da DS.. E a Nintendo não andou a gastar milhões em investigação, desenvolvimento, produção e marketing numa consola que iria durar um ano...

Todos sabemos que a nintendo não nada em dinheiro (em comparação com a sony e a microsoft) e uma jogada dessas parece-me absurda...




A menos que eles consigam baixar a DS para os 100€ e então essa consola iria competir directamente com a psp nos 200€..

Já não dou valor à nintendo, tudo o que fazem é criar 1 consola nova e reeditar todos os "classicos" nessa consola, praticamente. A primeira vez caem todos (n64), à 2ª cai quem quer (gba color), à 3ª só caem mesmo os idiotas (GC) [e sim, eu cai 3 vezes.]

Então e a PSP é o q? Vai ter bastantes jogos PS2 e remakes de PSone probably.

No caso da Nintendo o GBA é para quem gostava de Mega Drive e SNES e mm assim tem mts jogos novos. A DS é compatível com jogos do GBA e vai ter mts ports de jogos N64.

Isto é óbvio e só compra quem quer e eu pessoalmente estou à procura de uma consola portátil e sou grande fan da era 16-bit.

A Nintendo de facto cometeu um erro com o GBA a nível do ecrã e o GBA SP é claramente superior mas é possível q alguns compradores se sintam defraudados (tal como a N-Gage -> N-Gage QD).

It has been revealed that Nintendo plan to show off the GBA2 at the next E3, which begins May 17th. The unit will apparently have a large high-quality back-lit screen, as well as analogue controls.

With the emergence of the GBA2 fans may be wondering, "what's the point of the DS?" Well apparently at E3 Nintendo will be showing off software that will make the DS more like a PDA. According to Spong the new GBA2 will be based around the GameCube hardware, but that seems like a bit of a jump from the GBA. Still, more will be seen in May

Mas eu realmente não percebo porquê lançar duas consolas tão próximas uma da outra. Podem dizer que a DS não era suposto substituir o GBA mas de qualquer das formas acho dificil as vendas de uma não matar a outra (a não ser no Japão).

OK não ajuda em nada mas basicamente querem transmitir a mensagem de que são uma empresa séria e n vão tar a brincar com os milhões de pessoas q já compraram uma DS.
E sinceramente têm mesmo que ser profissionais pq a empresa em si depende do sucesso do mobile gaming já q sem este a Nintendo estaria em sérias dificuldades.

There are no truth in the rumours. They started when a Financial analyst in the USA took some information from a few, effectively unrelated companies, put them together and decided that the result meant that Nintendo were about to launch a new GB. Totally wrong! Incidentally, the DS is not part of the GB family. It is a separate product and runs alongside the GB but not in competition or as a replacement to the GB.
