AMD/ATI Planning new mid-range video card: the RV670

If you look at the current offerings from AMD/ATI, you can see that there is quite a large gap between midrange and high-end video cards. In contrast to the previous offerings, where the gap between X1950GT and X1950XTX was somewhat small, the Radeon 2900XT is easily two to three times as powerful as the Radeon 2600XT. Fortunately, AMD/ATI is planning to remedy this by developing the RV670. The current rumors say that it will be a 65nm chip, clocked similarly to the HD 2900, but with an unknown amount of ROP's, or TMU's. We should hear more about this chip in Q3, and if all goes well, it will be released by this Christmas.

yep vai ser uma gráfica de gama entre a HD2600XT e a HD2900XT com processo fabrico 65nm , segundo os rumores com clocks semelhantes aos da HD2900XT

Bem, a acontecer só pode ser bom. Com placas novas acabadas de sair o pessoal ter de ir para placas da gama anterior como tem estado a acontecer é muito mau.

Esperamos que sim... Se os clocks forem semelhantes pode ser que até compense, visto esta placa ser em principio mais barata que a HD2900XT...


PS: É a primeira vez que me aventuro neste subtopico de hardware novidades... Estou a começar a perceber destas coisas de hardware... E espero ajudar:)

Acho que está na altura de o mid range ter um bus de 256-bits. Afinal as de topo da ATI já tem de 512 bits.
Não sei se vai dar para obter um bom desempenho apenas com um bus de 128 e memorias rápidas.

As 8800 GTX e Ultra batem a R600 da ATI, e não precisaram de um bus de 512bit para o conseguir...

Acho que dão demasiada importância à largura de banda teórica do bus + memória, quando deveriam era dar importância à eficiência com que cada GPU usa a largura de banda que tem à sua disposição.
 
È só comparar a importancia do bus na geração anterior, uma X1950 PRO tem quase o dobro dos fps que uma 2600XT DDR3 ou DDR4 na mesma resolução, quando se mete filtros então as com 128 bits quase não dá para jogar.

Both versions will be made on TSMC's 55nm process and feature 320 streamprocessors. Samples are expected in September with mass production in December. Launch will be at the end of 2007 or the beginning of 2008. It's gonna be a single slot solution, be fully DX10.1 compliant (and thus feature SM4.1) and PCIe 2.0. It will have HDMI/HDCP/Audio/UVD and of course next gen CrossFire. Gladiator will run at 825Mhz and 1.2Ghz GDDR4 (512MB) while Revival will run at 750Mhz core and 900Mhz mem (256/512).

Supposedly the HD2900GT and Pro will still be released within a month or two, but suggested pricing for the Pro will be $299, which is way overpriced for it's projected 3DM06 score of 8000-9000. A GF8800-320 will probably be a better deal unless AMD drops this price to the original $199 that was floating around as the suggested price.

HD 2900 Pro e GT com lançamento para daqui a 1/2 meses.

Depois seguem-se 2 novas mid-end (RV670) HD 2950Pro e HD 2950 GT:
- 55nm
- 256Bits
- 320 Stream Processors
- Single Slot cooler
- DX_10.1 (SM 4.1)
- PCI-E 2.0, HDMI/HDCP/Audio/UVD, next gen CrossFire

Clocks:
Gladiator will run at 825Mhz and 1.2Ghz GDDR4 (512MB) while Revival will run at 750Mhz core and 900Mhz mem (256/512).

It's the official replacement of the X1950Pro, so the HD2950Pro will probably cost around $199-$249 at launch (closer to $199 than $249).

HD2600 will be replaced by RV635 in Januari. It's also a 55nm DX10.1 card with improved CrossFire. And the HD2400 will be replaced by the RV620 which is also a DX10.1 card on 55nm and unfortunately still has the 64-bit memory interface.

Furthermore AMD is really putting some work into CrossFire with Single Connector CF support coming soon as well as Software CF as well as CrossFire Overdrive as well as Tripod and QuadFire (8.44 DX10, 8.46 DX9) (last feature in the November/December timeframe).

As HD 2400 e HD 2600 tb serão substituidas em janeiro por novas versões renovadas com DX_10.1, 55nm e novo crossfire.

Parece um táctica bastante agressiva se lançada a tempo e horas, ja que logo se seguirá a R670 em Q1 2008 (nova high-end) e para o segundo semestre a R700.

Contrariamente a que toda a gente supunha afinal haverá DX10 para AGP. Vindo anúnciadas as placas futuras nos últimos Catalyst beta. Assim fica mais uma hipotese para extorquir mais uns euros ao pessoal que pensa conseguir jogar DX10 num sistema AGP... :lol:

Tirando a parte media center nao há mais nada que tenha peso para ponderar esta escolha como compra para futuros jogos Dx10, mais uma vez, em AGP.
