AMD (NYSE: AMD - News) today announced immediate availability of AMD Core Math Library (ACML) V1.0 for the AMD Opteron(TM) processor and other upcoming AMD64-based platforms. In cooperation with The Numerical Algorithms Group (NAG), AMD now offers a development tool that helps increase code accuracy and speed of delivery for improved performance of 32- and 64-bit x86 applications and systems.

"With today's release of the ACML v1.0, AMD provides developers in the High Performance Computing community a powerful tool to help create applications optimized for the scalable, compatible AMD64 platform," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit. "AMD Opteron processor-based systems have recently won numerous awards for leadership in the cluster computing market. Working cooperatively with NAG, AMD is providing critical tools to help developers leverage ACML and take advantage of the speed and performance of AMD Opteron processor-based clustering."

"These robust and reliable core numerical components can help developers extract peak floating point performance and accuracy for AMD Opteron processor clustering and other x86-based platforms," said Brian Ford, CEO of NAG. "This vital tool promotes the adoption of AMD64 clusters for more powerful financial, biotechnology, education, government and research computing."

ACML is composed of highly optimized numeric functions for mathematical, engineering, scientific, and financial applications. The library, initially available with a FORTRAN interface, is comprised of a full implementation of optimized Level 1, 2 and 3 Basic Linear Algebra Subroutines (BLAS), Linear Algebra Package (LAPACK) as well as Fast Fourier Transforms (FFTs) in single-, double-, single-complex and double-complex data types. The 1.0 release will support 32-bit and 64-bit Linux as well as 32-bit Windows®.

The ACML is freely available on AMD's developer site: http://developer.amd.com.
