According to the latest architecture- and core count-specific sales figures for AMD given out by Mercury Research detailing Q3-2013 in context of two preceding quarters, APUs make for nearly 75% of AMD's processor sales, and the company's recently-launched "Trinity" line of desktop and mobile APUs are off to a flying start.

The most popular chips in AMD's stable are its "Bobcat" Zacate series low-power APUs, which are being built into entry-level computing devices such as netbooks, nettops, and all-in-one desktops. The chips make up 39 percent of AMD's sales in Q3, followed by another APU line, the A-Series "Trinity", which is available in desktop and mobile variants, offers a combination of a fast integrated graphics processor with up to four CPU cores, and makes up 26.1 percent of AMD's sales. AMD's A-Series "Llano" can still be bought in the market, and makes up 7.4 percent of AMD's sales in Q3.

ASUS VivoBook U38DT Ultrabook Pops Up with Radeon HD 8550M Graphics
Not yet announced by AMD, the Radeon HD 8000 family of graphics cards has already started to creep up courtesy of several e-tail stores who jumped the gun and put up for pre-order an ultrabook (the ASUS VivoBook U38DT-R3001H) equipped with a Radeon HD 8550M. Unfortunately the listings are short on details and only mention that the Radeon HD 8550M (which hopefully isn't a rebranded 7 series card) has 1 GB of memory.

In addition to the HD 8550M, ASUS' 1.6 kg ultrabook packs a 13.3-inch (1366 x 768) LED-backlit display, a 1.6 GHz A8-4555M processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, B&O ICEPower audio, an SD card reader, three USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI output, and a 6-cell battery providing up to 5 hours of operation. The VivoBook U38DT-R3001H runs Windows 8 and is priced at €799.

As más noticias continuam a vir do lado da AMD, com mais alguns despedimentos.

AMD Prepares for January Reorganization, Including More Job Cuts

Having recently laid off about 1,700 people — amounting to nearly 15 percent of its workforce — whispers around the offices at chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices are already focusing on another corporate reorganization that would probably include even more layoffs.
Multiple sources confirm to AllThingsD that senior managers are girding their teams for yet another shakeup, though they are saying that the number of jobs that will be eliminated this time around will be much smaller. Some employees are being quietly told by managers that they will lose their jobs in January, but are being kept around for the moment as insurance against the possibility of other key people quitting before then, one source told me.
Another source told me that it’s an open secret around the corridors of AMD’s offices in Sunnyvale, Calif., and Austin, Texas, that another round of job cuts are coming. “The thinking is that management needs to get a few things right that they didn’t in the last round of layoffs,” one source told me.
It’s unclear exactly how many jobs will be eliminated in the pending reorganization. One source described the target number as “in motion,” in part because AMD managers are waiting to see how many more people quit on their own accord between now and January — and thus don’t require expensive severance packages. “Once the rate of attrition is known, they’ll know how many more they need to fire to get to the final target,” one source told me.
An AMD spokesman didn’t return messages.
Word of yet another shakeup comes only days after a Reuters report saying that AMD has hired investment bank J.P. Morgan to help advise it on strategic options, including a sale of certain assets, or even of the company itself.
AMD took pains, both in external and internal statements, to dispute the notion that a sale is possible in the days and hours after the report. Hours after the Reuters story on Tuesday, AMD issued a carefully worded statement saying that it is “not actively pursuing a sale of the company or significant assets at this time.” Note that the statement addressed nothing about J.P. Morgan’s hiring.
CEO Rory Read took a similar take in an internal memo issued to all AMD employees that day, and shared with AllThingsD.

Entretanto, mais uns rumores:

Freescale itself is not disclosing the specific numbers of layoffs, but a recent report in Israel’s Globes business news said the firm’s local division was laying off “100-200 of its 500 employees.”

Globes said those layoffs were centered around two departments - the DSP department and the multimedia chip department (which includes i.MX 7). Sources have also claimed AMD has hired the team Freescale let go in Israel to take a run at the high end SoC app processor market, though those rumors have yet to be confirmed.

Freescale denies that it is placing the employees in jobs at AMD, but refuses to say whether the two companied are holding negotiations.
Freescale has been negotiating over the past several days with several major high-tech companies to place one of its employee groups in jobs within one of the companies, including AMD and Apple.

Cortesia da Lisa Su?
Dr. Lisa Su is senior vice president and general manager, global business units, reporting to president and chief executive officer Rory Read.

Dr. Su joined Freescale in 2007 as chief technology officer, where she led the company’s technology roadmap and research and development efforts. She was promoted to senior vice president and general manager, networking and multimedia in 2008, and was responsible for global strategy, marketing, product management and engineering for their embedded communications and applications processor businesses.

Prior to her tenure at Freescale, Dr. Su spent thirteen years with IBM in various engineering and business leadership positions including vice president of the Semiconductor Research and Development Center responsible for the strategic direction of IBM’s silicon technologies, joint development alliances and semiconductor R&D operations. Prior to IBM, she was a member of the technical staff at Texas Instruments in the Semiconductor Process and Device Center (SPDC).

AMD Announces Global Distribution Agreement with Symmetry Electronics

AMD to Show the First Temash-Based Product Prototypes in CES Timeframe.
Most likely, the demonstrations will be private and made only for partners as the chip will probably be officially launched later in the year.

“[We target] new form-factor clients, low-power clients, tablets. We will launch Temash [based around] Kabini next year, that is a good uptake and you will see some of them around CES time-frame,” said Rory Read, chief executive of AMD, at Credit Suisse Technology Conference.

Previously AMD said that it would show off a number of media and business tablets featuring current-generation Z-60 “Hondo” APUs at CES. Those products will most likely go on sale immediately after the first public demonstrations to consumers during the consumer electronics show in early 2013..

Radeon 8000 expected in Q2 2013

Sources confirm

Since we only have one month left in 2012 and due the fact that graphics companies rarely announce something big in December, it is obvious that Radeon HD 8000 slipped to 2013.

Our well informed industry sources are confirming that the next generation, based on Sea Islands, architecture is coming in 2013 and some of them dare to say that it will be Q2 2013 rather than Q1 2013. Some people were expecting to see the cards in Q1 2013 but even according to AMD’s own roadmap Sea Islands, the new GPU architecture with HAS features was scheduled (or should we say delayed. Ed) for 2013.

AMD has already communicated this schedule loud and clear in its February 2012 roadmap update, and even then it killed hopes that Sea Islands or HD 8000 cards are coming in very late Q3 or Q4 2012, as was previously expected.

We won’t get into any specific details like the 8000 branding, or die sizes as we simply don’t know this at the time being. It’s safe to say that these cards will end up faster than 7000 series and at similar TDPs to the previous generation, all manufactured in 28nm.

Socket AM3 continues to Q2 2012+

Athlon II, Phenom II and Sempron live

Socket AM3+ in the AMD world continues to be reserved for newly launched FX 8350, 8320, 8120 as well as FX 6300 and 6100 and quad-core FX 4300, 4130 and 4100 parts. This won’t change for the better part of of 2013.

AMD might refresh some of these processors through 2013 but this won’t happen before some point of Q1 2013 or later. We found it interesting that in this quarter, Q4 2012 AMD still wants to carry Sempron, Athlon II and Phenom II parts. This won’t change either, at least until the end of Q2 2013 if not later.

AMD is currently selling Phenom II X4 965, Athlon II X4 quad-cores, Athlon II X2 270 dual-core, dual-core Sempron 190 and even a single core, Sargas based 45nm Sempron 150. There is still a market for these inexpensive parts.

These CPUs will continue their presence on the market in Q1 2013 and the only change we spotted in Q2 2013 plans was that Phenom II X4 will go into well deserved retirement.

The Sempron, as well as Athlon II X2 will primarily be targeted to emerging markets and global system integrators, but we are sure that if someone is anxious enough, it should not be impossible to get one in the rest of the world through 2013.

Eu posso estar mas esses processadores da AMD já devem estar prestes a entrar para o livro do Guiness como Processadores com mais tempo no activo :)
