" Smaller, faster, cheaper - hopefully

EE TIMES said that Advanced Micro Devices has started trundling microprocessors using smaller lines out of its factory in Dresden.
And as we expected, 90 nanometre chips will start to be available in quantity in Autumn of this year.
When chip manufacturers "shrink the die", it means they can produce more working chips from the same size silicon wafer, if everything proceeds satisfactorily.
Although it costs mucho Euros to install kit to produce smaller chips, it's well worth it for semiconductor firms that can afford it.
AMD is also readying itself to produce chips using strained silicon. There's more here. µ "
