Apple Tablet PC is real, says Asus

Crave hangs with people in high places -- that's how we get exclusives and free food. A few weeks ago we were having a civilised dinner with our friends at Asus and angling for cool stories when we were told in a very hushed manner: "Asus is helping Apple build a Tablet PC."
We're tempted to ignore all Apple rumours because there's just so many of them, but this rings true because Asus is Apple's contract manufacturer. It's one of the companies responsible for building the iBooks, PowerBooks and MacBooks of this world, so when their guys tell us they're building an Apple Tablet, we believe them.

We checked back with our source at Asus on a different day and they confirmed that the Apple Tablet will not be based on existing Asus designs such as the R1. It will come from a completely new blueprint, possibly based on the patent Apple filed back in May 2005. We're guessing it'll be based on Intel Core architecture, a tweaked version of Leopard, and have all the multi-touch, CoverFlow goodness we've seen in the iPhone and iPod touch.
So, can Apple turn the Tablet PC into a success when previous attempts have failed? The short answer is 'yes'. Any company that can make a mobile phone with no buttons, no picture messaging, slow Web access and no video capture into the most desirable phone on the planet can easily make tablets popular.
Sadly, we've no word on when we can expect the Apple Tablet PC, nor what the final specs will be, but you can bet your bottom dollar it's being built as you read this. Mac fanboys rejoice. -Rory Reid

Fico com as minhas dúvidas se a Apple vai conseguir vingar onde já antes se falhou.
O conceito não é novo, mas da Apple espera-se tudo.
 
Hmm nao sei não. A apple conhece menos o mercado dos tlms e nao foi por isso q pediu ajuda à nokia, pq no mercado que ela "domina"?
 
A Asus além de produzir computadores da sua própria marca, "subcontrata" as suas infra-estruturas para produzir máquinas para outras marcas... Julgo até que o Macbook é produzido precisamente em instalações da Asus. Portanto, nesse aspecto este rumor até está verosímil.
 
É a Asus que faz os Macbooks e fez os iBooks e Powerbooks. Lá isso é verdade mas rumores Apple só acredito quando aparece em Apple.com.
 
Se fizessem era a maravilha do macbook pro de 12' é que tinham juízo. Tablets nunca vingaram e nunca vão vingar, com ou sem apple. Penso eu de quê.

N digas isso.. tables são mesmo muito mas muito usadas! Claro não pelo average user.. mas sim pelos profissionais.. na area de design .. 3d... ou Qualquer coisa.. sei de um user cá que só usa tablets.. duvido é que a apple consiga bater a wacom!

Ele nem sequer sabe do que se está a falar lol, concordo plenamente com o ruimoura, Pois ainda agora ví-me obrigado a comprar o macbook de 13'' pois não existe o tão falado MBP 12'' que tanta gente ( eu incluido ) anseia.
Para quê um tablet pc qd se pode ter uma bomba de 12'' como foi o powerbook na altura dele?

Os Mac (assim como a maior parte dos portáteis de outras marcas) não são construídos pelas próprias marcas mas sim por produtores/assemblers que depois lhes metem a marca. A Asustek é um desses assemblers que, por acaso, tb vende marca própria. Podes ver aqui que a Asus produz para a Sony, Mac, HP e julgo que tb Dell.
 
os tablet's pc são usados em nichos de mercados, onde a mobilidade é importante e onde se quer um monitor generoso, mas não demasiadamente grande. Assim de repente estou a lembrar-me de algumas linhas de produção (os chefes), de algumas clinicas mais tech, de alguns designer que usam as tablet pc como tablets mas para o desenrasca tipo quando visitam clientes. E naquele grande nicho que são os filmes, fica sempre bem ver alguém passear no filme com um tablet pc, só porque sim, só porque o gajo do filme é um geek do caraças ou um super hiper cromo que faz tudo com uma stylus, por isso já sabem nas poximas produções da TVI e de Holywood lá vamos levar com a bela "mac tablet pc", em vez do ipod.

Mas o rui não deixa de ter razão no que toca ao mercado de consumo.

ASUS says it is working with Apple on Mac Tablet Computer

Tablet PCs never really took off from Windows based PC makers like Gateway, Dell and HP. There is still a place for a tablet PC, which are commonly seen in the health care setting, but you rarely see them out in the wild with your typical geek at the helm. That could all change if Apple has anything to say about the table computer industry. Apple has been on a roll recently with its iPhone selling like hotcakes well ahead of Apples goals leading to record sales for Apple. The iPhone was even chosen by TIME Magazine as the invention of the year. Apple has also recently released a full line of new iPods including the touch and a new nano. The new iMac computers were met with lots of praise when launched a few months ago, even though quality control issues with the new iMac computers have recently surfaced.

With Apple competing well in so many different aspects of the computer and electronics industry, could Apple be the company to break the tablet PC into the mainstream? According to a design patent Apple filed back in May of 2005 (D504,899), Apple may have had a tablet PC on the brain for more than a while.

Crave reports that at a private dinner with insiders from ASUS spilled the beans on the company's roll with Apple and the long rumored iPad. This rumor has a bit more credibility than your typical Apple rumor says Crave as the insider that leaked this information is known to them and ASUS currently builds the Apple MacBook. Perhaps Apple is finally looking to put that patent filed way back in 2005 to use and take the table PC world by storm.
Even with the onscreen keyboard shortcomings of the iPhone, if Apple rolls out a higher-performance, larger iPhone-like device Apple fans will likely jump all over the new product.

One could reasonably expect that if this information coming from Crave is accurate, that the patent DailyTech reported about last month for a touchscreen interface with tactile feedback from Apple may also be incorporated into a new Apple tablet PC.

Essa fonte parece-me muito credível! Não me admirava nada se a apple estivesse mesmo a pensar em produzir Tablet PC's... n é bem o meu estilo, mas visto bem pela parte da apple, faz todo o sentido: a maior parte dos Tablet PC's são usados por comerciantes para mostrar productos a clientes ou coisas do género ... ora, quem é que não queria andar com um Tablet todo bonitinho à estilo mac debaixo do braço o dia todo? Agora imaginem-no multi-touch como o iphone e com aqueles eye candy de que todos gostamos... :x2:
Sinceramente, a ideia não me parece má de todo, mas a apple deve ter em conta que a venda dos Tablet PC's não são grande coisa :x

Por acaso é um pouco ridiculo!
Quando ainda não existem certezas em relação a hardware/design, aparecerem já com o preço e capacidades do produto é no minimo estranho.
