"Metropolis Software has been working hard for some time for Archangel, their upcoming title for publisher JoWood that blends action and RPG elements in their game of the fight between good and evil. HomeLAN got the collective of Metropolis Software to answer our questions about their game which is due for release later this year.

HomeLAN - How did the idea for Archangel come about?

Metropolis Software - It was an original idea that was a team effort. It was great, because everyone in the team had input.

HomeLAN - What is the storyline for the game?

Metropolis Software - Michael Travinsky is an ordinary man who dies in a car accident. Upon his death, he crosses into a new life in a strange environment, completely different from what he used to. As the story develops, Michael becomes an emissary of the Lord of Light and fights against the Forces of Darkness.

HomeLAN - What locations and levels are being developed for the game?

Metropolis Software - The game takes place in three different epochs: ancient times, future Berlin, and an unknown city named Kramath. These three epochs all contain the everlasting struggle of good and evil. For example, in ancient times the people lived in darkness and believed in magic and legends. Here, the player finds himself in an inpenetrable forest surrounding a strange abbey. Contemporary Berlin is the setting for the city of the future. It is the time of the Forces of Darkness, i.e. anarchy, terrorists, devastated environment, and the expansion of big corporations. In Kramath, the evil forces have won everything -- the human souls are imprisoned; people are forced to work in mines and factories; and the city is full of demons.

HomeLAN - What sort of weapons and powers will the player get to use in Archangel?

Metropolis Software - In Archangel, there is a whole bunch of weapons available, depending on the stage of the game. In the ancient times stage, players can find several swords, bows, knives, and axes. In future epochs, more suiltable weapons are provided, such as pistols, shotguns, rocket launchers, etc... In addition to weapons, the player can develop certain magical abilities, such as the ability to regenerate the hero’s strength, become invisible, or invulnerable for a certain period of time.

HomeLAN - What kinds of characters and enemies will the player encounter in the game?

Metropolis Software - During the game, the player meets several creatures controlled by the power of darkness. These creatures are wild animals, demons, and people who have changed into monsters. In the more modern-day settings, the player will also fight against street gangs and the security guards of a big corporation.

HomeLAN - How are the game's RPG aspects used?

Metropolis Software - The most important RPG element is to strategically develop the story’s hero. It is the player’s decision as to how they will develop the hero’s special skills. Thanks to these special skills, the hero is able to defeat the enemy in numerous ways.

HomeLAN - What other gameplay elements in Archangel do you consider to be important?

Metropolis Software - The combat model is very similar to action games’ combat model. The player will need to find their enemy’s week point and then use a suitable weapon and/or special abilities to defeat them. Agility and the player’s strategic approach toward the enemy are also important.

HomeLAN - What can you tell us at this point about the game's graphics engine?

Metropolis Software - Archangel is based on the Wireframe Engine, a proprietary technology that Metropolis has been developing for a few years. This engine has enabled us to create complex scenery by using a high-capacity rendering platform with portal architecture. The engine also contains a prioprietary system of shaders, which lets us use detail textures and environment mapping AND create many special effects. As for character creation, upper bodies and lower bodies are animated separately. Lipsync is also present. Lastly, the game system automatically recognizes and uses most of the new graphics cards’ features.

HomeLAN - Will the game be "mod friendly" in any way?

Metropolis Software - At the moment, no. All of the game elements are strictly connected to the story.

HomeLAN - What multiplayer modes, if any, will be in the game?

Metropolis Software - The gameplay is designed for single player only.

HomeLAN - What is the current status of Archangel's development and when will it be released?

Metropolis Software - The game will be completed soon.. Expect it to release in November.

HomeLAN - Finally is there anything else you wish to say about Archangel?

Metropolis Software - We hope players will enjoy it!!"
