PC Assetto Corsa (Kunos Simulazioni)

Assetto Corsa 'Ready to Race' DLC Car Pack Arrives May 18

In a surprise move, Kunos Simulazioni has announced the next car pack set to arrive for Assetto Corsa. Players won’t have to wait long either: the new cars will be available next week.

As the name implies, the Ready To Race car pack features ten cars that should feel at home on a race track. Many of these models were already teased earlier this year, but here’s the full list:

  • Audi R8 LMS 2016
  • Audi R18 e-tron quattro
  • Audi TT Cup 2016
  • Audi TT RS (VLN)
  • Lotus 3-Eleven
  • Maserati MC12 GT1
  • McLaren 570S
  • McLaren P1 GTR
  • Toyota Celica ST185 Turbo
  • Toyota TS040 Hybrid
The 3-Eleven and 570S will be sure to please road-car aficionados. Meanwhile, the recently-added Audi Quattro will gain a play mate in the Celica. We’re particularly curious about the TT VLN racer: that wild 380 hp race car was converted from the road-car’s all-paw setup to front-drive only. Yikes.

Kunos Simulazioni will be updating the PC version of the game to 1.14 alongside the release of the RTR pack. The update will include a new wind algorithm, improved Downshift Protection, and numerous AI improvements. Players will now be able to select AI aggressiveness, and will find more variation in the AI’s laps. Ideally, this will result in improved on-track battles.

It may be nothing, but we also noticed a change in the Assetto Corsa watermark. The font is different — are bigger changes planned for the franchise this year?

The Ready To Race car pack and v1.14 update will arrive on Steam next week, May 18. Console players are in for a wait: no date has been provided, but with the last update still awaiting one of its own, we expect a delay of at least a month or two for the new content.

More Assetto Corsa 'Ready To Race' Images: R8 LMS, TT RS and Maseratti MC12

PC players of Assetto Corsa will receive another shot of cars in the driving sim in only a few days. After the surprise announcement last week, Kunos Simulazioni has released additional shots of three of the incoming race cars.

Up first is the Maserati MC12 GT1. A car that should be very familiar to fans of early-naughts sports car racing, the MC12 was crafted from the bones of the Ferrari Enzo. Maserati completed a short run of road-going models to satisfy homologation rules before the car began its on-track domination. In the 94 GT Championship races the MC12 took part in, it won 40.

We move from one mid-engined race car to another, in the form of the Audi R8 LMS. The second generation of Audi’s production-based racer is one of the most common GT3-class vehicles out there. Over 200 customers have taken delivery of an R8 LMS since the program began, and the latest model can be yours for a little over $400,000. That makes the digital version quite a bargain, then.

The final part of the trio is vastly different than the others. Audi built the TT RS for a specific class of the VLN series, and in an unorthodox move, converted the car to front-wheel drive. That’s right: despite looking like an evolution of the wild DTM TTs from a decade previous, this car sends its power to the front. With the five-cylinder engine pumping out 380 hp, this car should be quite the handful.

The Ready to Race car pack launches May 18 on Steam. Console racers haven’t been forgotten about: Kunos recently reiterated what PS4 and XB1 players can expect in the upcoming 1.14 update. Stay tuned for more Assetto Corsa news as we get it.
