Hi,
I've read this whole forum and in spite of existing some problems similar to mine i don't find answers. Mine is a little bit whorst. I cant' stand my board A8N-E anymore if i don't find answers.
A few days ago I bought a motherboard ASUS A8N-E an, Enermax Liberty 400W PSU and a POV 7800GT PCIe16x.
I installed it in case with the components I had. The system configuration was:
AMD 64 3200+
Termalright XP-90 with Noiseblocker 90mm
PSU ENERMAX LIBERTY 400W
ASUS A8N-E
POV 7800GT PCIE16x
2x512 RAM KINGSTON NANYA
1 RAPTOR 36GB 10k rpm
1 HITACHI 250GB SATA II 8MB
2 NOISEBLOCKER FANS 80mm
Okay, all assembled and right connected. I have good experience mounting hardware.
Turned it on, computer starts, monitor on. While entering windows it shuts down. I go to bios and I see my 3200+ at 4000 MHZ (i don't do overclock). I thought it was strange. I shuted down my machine. Reset CMOS as described in manula 1911E. Restarted PC, the graphic card won't turn on the monitor. I tested all the ways I could till I discovered the 5 beeps I heard were from the graphics card problem. Okay. The 7800GT was 2nd hand.. I could be damaged. Next day I bought an ATI X300 to test the system. Started install windows. Everything okay. Install SP2 and some drivers. Suddenly system shutsdown. No graphics card. Grrrr... my board was burning graphics card though neither board neither grapchis card are apparently damaged.
So, I took my board and sent it out to RMA (to be replaced). The shop tested the board. Everything was fine. I asked to change the board for another one with different serial number. I started thinking it was the PSU... Sent it back to RMA. The shop tested PSU at full and the lines were stable. I asked them to change the PSU for other with different serial number. They did it.
The stuff arrived and i installed it again. Meanwhile I tested the RAM and CPU with another board and PSU and everything works fine. CPU at 29º, RAM tested 8 hours with MEMTEST, I calculated 32M PI with SUPER PI, CPU stable. Okay, I thought they didn't test the PSU or BOARD. I installed the material same way. Put the X300 installed windows and SP2, some drivers... pufff shut down.... it starts again after 2 or 3 minutes... I continued using computer... 5, 10 minutes it shut down again. I couldn't start graphics card anymore. I put a PCI graphics card STB Velocity 128 4MB and the computer started. I ran sandra and everest and they didn't detect my PCIex16 card...
With the PCI card I updated my BIOS from 1008 to 1011 (my board is v2.0) although my processor 3200+ rev2 was supported by 1008. I updated all chipset drivers. Just one thing was strange. I always installed windows and it didn't asked me the sata driver disk... i recognized raptor 36G and hitachi sata 250GB at first time...
Now I have a 7900GT to test the system... but i don't feel secure to install it. I think the problem can be the 2x512 Kingston Nanya installed in the board. I know the board is tricky with ram. I don't know what to do. Even changing RAM it can be the CPU but i think 3200 venice is a great CPU. An opteron would bring more problems i think...
Someone has the same problem? I don't know what to do and I can't use my RMAs anymore... Someone were able to solve this? Gimme solutions... I don't know what to do... Mounted PCs all my life, 22 years of experience and nothing like this happened... I think it's an incompatibility between board cpu and ram... don't know Help me!
