mas o preço ainda deve baixar um bocado como só vou mandar montar o pc dia 15 de junho pode ser que até lá baixe um bocado pelo menos 75€ lool (isto já é a sonhar alto)

Thunderbolt Speed Tests (conducted on the ASUS P8Z77-V Premium)

Like the folks at Anandtech, we experienced intermitent stability and performance issues with Thunderbolt on the MSI Z77A-GD80, which we curiously did not encounter on the ASUS board. Since drivers and firmware are still undergoing certification we will reserve judgement on the former until its final shipping iteration.

First up, a timely reminder on why ordinary USB 3.0 is inadequate for high performance transfers (test conducted with a single Corsair Force GT):

After protocol overheads, USB 3.0 can only theoretically achieve a throughput of 4Gbit/s (500MB/s), which is inferior to SATA 3.0's 4.8 GBit/s (600MB/s) and Thunderbolt's 8GBit/s (1000MB/s).

Por mais 1 porta não aumenta o custo assim...

E mandam o back/io com aqueles 2 monstros ali (VGA e HDMI), quando se podia ter mais 2 portas USB e wifi... É que vai mesmo malta comprar boards de 400 € para ligar monitores VGA na grafica onboard... ya right.
 
ASUS Unveils World’s First Thunderbolt Add-On Card At Computex

Working with a specially-reserved header on select ASUS Z77 and H77 motherboards, users can connect / link devices to the ThunderboltEX card’s Thunderbolt port for an easy connectivity upgrade. ThunderboltEX plugs into the bottom PCIe slot, taking up a x4 link. It then connects to the Thunderbolt header on the motherboard using a system link cable, and to the DisplayPort-out at the back of the motherboard via a DisplayPort cable. Once all hooked up, users can plug devices to the ThunderboltEX card’s Thunderbolt port, gaining access to 10Gbps data transfer and video connectivity with support for up to six daisy-chained devices and a seventh device in the form of a Thunderbolt or DisplyPort Monitor. This add-on card additionally is fully transparent and provides the same performance and functionality as native solutions including Hot Plug support.

Afinal o header não é uma saída displayport, mas o tal "system link"... Deve ser para controlo ou afins.

o sinal de vídeo terá que vir com este cabo displayport. Pouco "elegante" ter o cabo pendurado, mas por um lado permite também passar o sinal de vídeo de uma gráfica dedicada, caso tenha displayport.

vamos ver quanto custa isto.

A questão se é possivel usar Thunderbolt sem sinal displayport (só o PCI-e). Só faz sentido passar o sinal displayport nesta situação se fosse usar um "Thunderbolt Display".

Vamos ver se a própria ASUS lance uns "Thundebolt monitors".

ASUS sneaks in a dual-port Thunderbolt expansion card during Computex

Every year at Computex Taipei, certain vendors have this annoying practice of slipping in new products throughout the 5-day event, unannounced of course, hence the need for us journos to re-visit the show halls to see what we've left out. ASUS previously showed off the ThunderboltEX expansion card for select Z77/H77 motherboards and potential support on upcoming AMD AM3+ boards, and today they sneaked in a dual Thunderbolt port expansion card featuring the more expansive but full fledged Intel Cactus Ridge 4C host controller.

Se bem que não é sobre os Z77/H77 mas aqui fica.
 
O Thunderbolt é um sistema "externo" que não depende propriamente da plataforma. Desde que a board esteja preparada, com o tal header, basta instalar a placa e "já está".

O que não deve aparecer, pelo menos tão cedo é boards AMD com thunderbolt "nativo" (soldado directo na board) e muito menos na plataforma AM3+ (até pode ter, mas vai ter que ter um displayport de input, tal como na placa de expansão), já que é preciso haver certificação da Intel e não estou a ver a Intel certificar para a concorrência.

A AMD entretanto chegou a anunciar uma tecnologia concorrente, mas injectando USB 3.0 no sinal displayport...
 
Não sabia que a ASUS P8Z77-V Premium já se falava aqui, se não, não tinha criado outro tópico, como o titulo "foge" um pouco pensava que não estava aqui mencionado.
