ASUS, one of the leading manufactures of computer hardware and consumer electronics, is set on trying to change the way we connect a monitor to a system. The company that is responsible for changing the portable computer market has partnered with Realtek to develop wireless monitors using Realtek's Wireless USB technology. So, by the time you grow tired of reading about the Eee PC, we might actually be seeing another product that will once again heavily impact the market.
Employing the aforementioned technology might change forever, in a good way, the way an office space could be organized. This technology can eliminate the necessity of video cables, which should reduce clutter and permit more flexible and streamlined office layouts.
According to Realtek, the connection and disconnection process can be reduced to the "ultimate in convenience" by using an automatic system configuration. Also, by employing a high-bandwidth wireless connection, monitors should offer roughly the same performance as their wired counterparts, but while also bringing the flexibility of wireless technology.
The wireless ASUS monitor is expected to integrate a Wireless USB module embedded into the monitor. Such a monitor can be connected to the PC by using either a Wireless USB HWA (Host Wire Adapter) or WHCI (Wireless Host Controller Interface).
"Wireless operation opens up an entirely new experience to our customers, with unsurpassed convenience and ease-of-use," said Vincent Chiou, director of ASUS Display. "Our search for high performance and quality led us to choose Realtek's state-of-the art Wireless USB solutions as a key component in raising the easy usability of Asus monitors to a new level." he added.
ASUS is known for always being innovative with its new products and, if it releases a wireless monitor before any other competitor, the company might also become one of the leading display manufactures. Wireless monitors have been talked about since early 2007 and were expected to be released somewhere in the mid-2008. Unfortunately, we shall have to wait a bit longer for that. Still, there is no word yet on how the use of wireless technology will impact the total cost of such a product.
