If ASUS' N61 / N71 laptops were just too -- shall we say, glamorous -- for you, how's about the ultra-classy UL lineup? Short for UnLimited possibilities (groan), the UL series offers up a variety of models, all of which rely on Intel's CULV platform for juice and can squeeze up to 12 hours of claimed battery life thanks to having both discrete and integrated graphics onboard. The 1-inch thin machines arrive in either black or brushed aluminum, with room for up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, a dual-layer DVD burner, a Core 2 Duo CPU and hard drives as large as 500GB. Both 14- and 15.6-inch models are available, though your guess is as good as ours when it comes to pricing and availability.

Yesterday ASUS unveiled an ultra-slim stylish LCD monitor series in the form of Designo MS. Today the firm came out with a new notebook line up, the ASUS UL (UnLimited). There are a total of four UL laptops: the UL20 (12.1″), UL30 (13.3″), UL50 (15.6″), and UL80 (14″). The newest ASUS laptop series is based on Intel’s CULV platform and boast of dedicated NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards. Thanks to energy efficient design and Asus exclusive GraphiX Boost, user will be able to get up to 12 hours of runtime.

As for design, the ASUS UnLimited Series is pretty stylish. It not only boast of an attractive chassis with brushed aluminum finishing, but it is also very slim, measuring less than 1-inch thick.

Flagship features include Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, up to 8GB memory, a high definition LCD display with a 16:9 aspect ratio, max 500GB HDD, dedicated NVIDIA GeForce G 210M graphics card with 512MB VRAM, dual Altec Lansing speakers supported by SRS Premium Sound, 0.3 megapixel camera, DVD burner, optional WWAN, and Windows Vista.

The new ASUS notebook series UL are available to the public with prices starting at Euro 699 for the series ASUS UL30 and Euro 799 for the series ASUS UL50, which include one year international warranty and one year warranty Kasko, able to cover laptops in the event of accidental damage. Brutal! Finalmente começam a aparecer portáteis de ecrãs grandes e baixo peso a preços acessíveis. Fu**in' Alleluia! Era mesmo deste tipo de bichos que estava à espera :D:D

Entao um bocadinho off topic... estou para comprar o toshiba u500, como nao é urgente, será que vale a pena esperar até à saida desses ASUS??? Estou a falar em comparacao com o ASUS de 13,3'?

Eu também já estive virado para o toshiba U500, mas depois algumas coisas fizeram-me ficar atrás:

- Duração da bateria
- Peso
- Tenho uma unidade externa de bd-rom/dvd+-rw, logo a falta desta unidade não é importante.
 
estive no site da asus e nao encontrei nada sobre estes portateis.. realment o toshiba no peso e na bateria deixa muito a desejar.. mas comparando os restantes componentes, valerá a pena aguardar um mes pela chegada destes asus??
 
ASUS UL80 and N61Vg hands-on

Windows 7 has inspired an expected new model bonanza among PC manufacturers, and ASUS is no exception. Just for starters the new UL80 (pictured running Windows Vista) and N61Vg offer up some "mainstream" prices and performance up against that Win 7 hotness. The UL80 makes like a thin and light, with a new dual-core CULV SU7300 processor and a quoted 12 hours of battery life, but also works in switchable discreet graphics, Turbo33 tech for selective overclocking the processor, and a disc drive. It's still relatively thin and light, and to our eyes has a pretty snazzy display. The N61Vg has a bit of a new design language for ASUS, with a pleasant rubberized palm rest. It also has a multi-touch trackpad, strong multimedia features and a decent size / weight for a 16-inch Core 2 Quad machine. The existing UL80 configuration, without the overclocking, goes for about $849, so we expect the new UL80 to be in that ballpark, while the N61Vg is slated for around $1,049.

Espera-se que saiam no mesmo dia do lançamento do Windows 7, dia 22 deste mês.
Eu nunca testei o desempenho de nenhum portátil com processadores CULV. Eu estava interessado em comprar um portátil ultra leve (para uso universitário) que me permitisse programar em IDEs tipo Visual Studio sem qualquer problema, mas estou na dúvida se estes processadores estão à altura deste tipo de tarefas. Será que alguém que tenha alguma experiência com este tipo de processadores, preferencialmente o SU9400, me pode aconselhar se de facto, esta poderá ser uma boa opção para o que eu necessito? Eu sei que poderia optar por um processador como um dv3 ou algo do género, mas o peso e o design destes novos ASUS são simplesmente brilhantes.

Alguém sabe se o UL80V (o com a 210M) virá cá para Portugal?

Pelo menos num fornecedor (CPCDI) não aparece :( (é o unico UL que não está lá)
