ATI Technologies will market its RX480 north bridge under the model name of Radeon Xpress 200, and the RS480 integrated part will be marketed as the Radeon Xpress 200G, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.
Although the company claimed that it had already begun shipping the products in late September, volume shipments of the two PCIe-enabled chips are expected to start in mid-November, the sources added.
The Radeon Xpress 200-series chipsets are ATI’s first chipsets to support the Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) K8 platform. They will compete with the Nvidia nForce 4 series and the K8T890 K8 chipsets from VIA Technologies.
