mhouston - Pande Group disse:We know other X1k board 'can' work, but it's a question of issues with the watchdog timer. When running quite large simulations while designing all of this, we start to hit the watchdog timer in the kernel.
The X1900's have a little headroom if someone attempts to run anothe app which want the GPU. The X1800 maybe, but with the X1600 this gets more interesting. When the kernel watchdogs, you will either blue screen or blank screen. You may or may not run into this with the current WUs as the size of the WU directly impacts the shader time, and that is what causes the watchdog.
Windows has a watchdog timer that checks hardware devices to see if they or the driver has crashed. It does this by getting the driver/device to respond. When you run a really long shader, which leads to a really long frame rendering time (not frames in the FAH sense), the driver doesn't respond to the kernel, and the kernel thinks something has gone wrong and resets the driver. This causes us to lose context in a really nasty way.
If by forged, you mean hacked, that is a violation of the software EULA. See the software license link on the client download page. Stanford does not permit the modification of the software client.
