Black Myth: Wukong - an action-RPG based on classic Chinese tale Journey to the West - has been announced for consoles and PC alongside an impressive 13 minute gameplay video. That video is getting some sections of the internet very excited indeed.
Developed by Game Science, Black Myth appears to be taking soulslike approach to gameplay, but with a vibrant environmental art style (created in Unreal Engine 4), and a neat stealth mechanic in which you turn into a cicada to avoid bigger threats.
A few informations for the people interested:
- The studio behind this game is called Game Science Studio created in 2014, and currently has 40 employees (of which 30 are devs)
- Script and development started “very late 2017” by a team of 13 employees who previously only worked on 3 F2P games that released for mobile and pc (2 of them didnt perform very well)
- The team played 3 games during development, God of War, Sekiro and Monster Hunter World, learning from each. (Hence why there’s a sekiro feel to the gameplay and a god of war feel to the design, art style and animations)
- The studio is still looking for about 20 more employees and also for a publisher to help (maybe even fund) the full project. (Which is probably why they showed gameplay so early, maybe they urgently need funds and want to get a deal with a publisher rapidly)
- No release date were given, they mentioned they still want to work on this to make it a full length game worth the full price (I guess they meant the full AAA game price of 60$). Video game analyst Daniel Ahmad says its still 2+ years away at the very least. They want to release it on PC and “major consoles” (i dont know if nintendo switch is also on the list)
- The game will focus on the monkey king (which will have 72 different abilities) and is about the Chinese mythology (similar to what DBZ is about), running on UE4 and gameplay shown was captured on PC.
Se ninguém me dissesse eu não acreditava que tinha sido feito por um estudio indie.
