Next Call of Duty Game is On Track for Q4 2021 Release, Developer to be Confirmed
Now for some news that will come as a seismic shock: there will be a Call of Duty game coming later this year. I know, right?! Who saw that one coming? Activision has slated the title for Q4 2021, like every other Call of Duty title since time immemorial, although which of its studios will be on development duties is yet to be confirmed.
With Treyarch and Raven Software collaborating for 2020's Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the smart money would be on Sledgehammer Games to take the reins for this year's instalment, after its proposed 2020 CoD effort ended up being shelved. Otherwise, we'll be looking at Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward taking up the mantle once again. And, of course, Call of Duty Warzone will remain a going concern.
"We will benefit from a full year of Warzone driving upgrades to our premium content and incremental in-game player investment, and we have a substantial opportunity to continue migrating the community to Black Ops Cold War as well as another strong premium release planned for Q4 in 2021,” commented Activision CEO Dennis Durkin, during the company's fourth quarter earnings call (via VGC).
In all probability, we'll have a 2021 Call of Duty reveal this summer, with the game itself to follow in late-October/early-November for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
