Porque é que achas que é uma estupidez o Debian não suportar isso ?

Porque ao não distribuirem oficialmente o firmware proprietário não suportam o hardware; Por outras palavras, tens uma distro out of the box que nos casos em que nao existe um driver 100% livre apenas tens meio driver disponivel, e isso é ridiculo porque o driver free continua a precisar do firmware do fabricante. Percebo que não queiram distribuir binarios compilados por outros, mas ao nao incluirem o firmware nos CD's de instalação complicam a vida às pessoas que não teem grandes conhecimentos.

Uso debian e já usei mt tempo archlinux e *buntu e nunca tive problemas com esse departamento .

Sim eu também utilizo Linux há mais de 15 anos, e já tive várias vezes problemas com esse departamento, isto é... determinado hardware que nao é suportado pelo kernel da distribuição ou que é necessário um driver 3rd party (fabricante). Isso depende um pouco do hardware, e ao invés dos tempos antigos em que o pessoal montava o computador e escolhia os componentes, actualmente sobretudo com portáteis comes o hardware que vem fornecido pelo fabricante, e isso pdoe levantar problemas.

São filosofias de utilização , acho que não seja estupidez ou uma boa ideia.

Claro que sim... mas isto é normal em determinadas comunidades que não são orientadas para consumidores finais que em nada partilham as opiniões deles; Normalmente as pessoas querem é utilziar o hardware que comprar sem muita chatisse. Por mim é igual, se tiver que ir a baixo nivel ao bit mais obscuro também se vai

São decisões mantidas por eles , se calhar eles implementam funcionalidades que outros não tem e vice-versa.

Nao tem nada a ver com funcionalidades, é uma questao politica nao incluir firmware binario de fabricantes com licenças que nao sejam livres; Por outras palavras, se tens hardware que necessita de firmware nao proprietário e que nao tem um driver open source, esse hardware nao funciona em Debian sem repositorios extra (ex: non-free). Eles já teem o repositorio online e os pacotes, é infantil nao terem o repo configurado nas iso's... se o fizessem pelo menos os utilizadores poderiam ter logo o hardware a funcionar...

Dou-te um exemplo simples... Pegas num elitebook 8650p e instalas Debian com o netinstall.... Azar, nao instalas porque nao tens driver para a placa wifi... tens que andar com um cabo de rede... Com qualquer outra distribuição nao tens esse problema. Explica isso a um utilizador nao tecnico que apenas quer o hardware a funcionar... a mim nao é necessário porque eu já sei como as coisas funcionam há muitos anos.

Isso muito provávelmente tem a ver com vários controladores ACPI a serem executados ao mesmo tempo. Para confirmar executa este comando e coloca aqui o resultado.

ls /sys/class/backlight/

Pois como eu previa, tens dois controladores. Experimenta o seguinte comando:

sudo rmmod intel_backlight

e depois tenta ajustar o brilho para ver se funciona. Se não funcionar executa os seguintes:

sudo modprobe intel_backlight

sudo rmmod acpi_video0

e testa novamente. Depois coloca aqui como correu.

foi a primeira vez que executas-te o comando?

Faz assim, executa primeiro o

ls /sys/class/backlight/

Se no resultado aparecer o intel_backlight executa o

sudo rmmod intel_backlight

se der novamente erro alguma coisa está má...

Já agora qual é o teu portátil?

Eu também fiz isso, depois de dar o erro também orri o ls e estavam lá as duas pastas.

The i5 CPU is a great compromise between performance and price, giving us 4 times the performance of the MintBox pro at roughly the same price. Sim eu sei que essa é a razão de ser caro. Não me importava nada de comprar uma coisinha dessas para ser o meu PC de trabalho. Para o uso que lhe ia dar era mais do que suficiente!

‘Utilite’ – The $99 Ubuntu ARM PC

A $99 ARM Ubuntu PC is being launched by the makers of the Mintbox.

The Utilite, created by Israel-based Compulab, measures 135mm by 100mm by 21mm and is powered by a Freescale i.MX6 ARM CPU in either a single, dual or quad-core configuration.

The device will be available to pre-order in August starting from $99 for a single-core model. A finalised shipping date is yet to be announced.

Tech Specs
Detailed specifications for the base model – i.e. the headline grabbing $99 one – are yet to be released but is likely to be based around the lower-end Freescale i.MX6 SoC, which sports a 1Ghz clock speed and HD-capable video decoding.

Other specs of the device will be available for configuration, including:

• Up to 1.2Ghz Quad-core ARM CPU
• Up to 4GB DDR3 RAM
• Up to 512GB SSD

It’s likely that in addition to an Ubuntu option the fanless Utilite will also be available with Android pre-installed.

Compulab‘s offerings, from the FitPC to the Mintbox, invariably end up pricier than comparative products. With this in mind you should expect the baseline price of $99 to be a mere glint in the rear-view mirror of pricing when selecting additional specifications.
