Some good news for enthusiasts and new adopters of the Core i7 platform is the fact that the new Core i7 Extreme 975 and Core i7 950 processors are now available at a few online US retailers as of this morning.
As we mentioned back in February, both processors are to serve as replacements for the existing Core i7 Extreme 965 and Core i7 940 at higher clock speeds, a new stepping revision, and the same respective price points.
The 950 model runs at 3.06GHz, roughly 130MHz faster than its 940 predecessor, and is priced again at $562 in quantities of 1000. Likewise, the Extreme Edition 975 model runs at 3.33GHz, roughly 133MHz faster than its 965 predecessor, and is priced again at $999 in quantities of 1000.
So far, Pennsylvania-based site CostCentral currently lists the boxed retail i7-975 (BX80601975) for $1,135.12 with free shipping, and with 25 in stock at press time, but it got sold out in the mean time. It also lists the boxed retail i7-950 for $636.68 with free shipping, and with 449 in stock.
