The game engine behind Far Cry, Crysis and Crysis 2 may soon land up in Linux. According to Chris Robert, the creator of Wing Commander series, Crytek are currently discussing plans of porting the game engine to Linux. It depends on Crytek and having the engine support OpenGL as well as DirectX. There may be some good news in the near future as we've discussed it with Crytek and they themselves want to address this. These questions was asked in a Ask Me Anything session in Reddit. The company is soon going to release some new games on CryEngine, like MechWarrior Online and Star Citizen. In another comment. Chris Robert mentioned:The server side of CryEngine can run on Linux. Unfortunately the client side currently does not and is tied to DirectX. We've been discussing OpenGL with them for Linux and Mac reasons and they have some other licenses that also want to do it, so it may happen in the near future. Star Citizen had started a poll where you can vote for Linux support of the game. Interestingly, 22% of voters wanted Linux support, which is much more than ones wanting Mac OS support(8%).
