DFI Motherboard Roadmap

    New LANParty UT models, unannounced ATI chipsets

    has recently come across a DFI product roadmap that outlines new DFI products for up until Q3’06. The roadmap outlines new NVIDIA, ATI, Intel chipset based boards for high end LANParty UT and mainstream Infinity product brands. DFI is expected to revamp every single product available by August.

    LANParty UT boards have become the new Abit in terms of enthusiast motherboards—with good reason too. The new LANParty UT AMD compatible product lineup consists of new boards based on the recently announced NVIDIA nForce 5 series and the ATI RD580 and RD550 chipsets.

    On the NVIDIA side of things the current LANParty UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert will be replaced by the LANParty UT nF590 SLI-M2R/G. The LANParty UT nF590 SLI-M2R/G will be the only nForce 590 SLI based board DFI is offering this generation. The board will feature two PCI Express x16, one PCI Express x8, one PCI Express x4, and three PCI slots. There will also be a total of eight SATA II ports with six powered by the NVIDIA MCP and two ports powered by a Silicon Image SIL3132 controller. DFI will support Dual Gigabit LAN which means there will most likely be Teaming support.

    An nForce 570 SLI based LANParty UT nF570 SLI-M2/G will replace the previous LANParty UT nF4 SLI-D/DR. Features will be similar to the nForce 590 SLI based board except there will be two PCI Express x1 slots instead of the PCI Express x8 and x4 slots on the LANParty UT nF590 SLI-M2R/G. The Silicon Image SIL3132 SATAII controller is also removed.

    Replacing the entry-level LANParty UT nF4-D/nF4 Ultra-D models will be the LANParty UT nF570-M2/G. The board will be similar to the nForce 570 SLI variant but lack support for SLI.

    ATI based products are limited to a single new LANParty UT CFX3300-M2R/G which replaces the existing LANParty UT CFX3200-DR/G. This time around DFI is coupling the Radeon Xpress 3200 (RD580) to the new ATI SB650 south bridge. The SB650 differs from the regular SB600 south bridge by offering RAID 5 support. A second Promise PDC40719 SATA-II controller is also integrated for four more SATA II ports. The LANParty UT CFX3300-M2R/G seems to support dual Gigabit Teaming features as well. Expansion slot availability is similar to the NVIDIA based LANParty UT boards—two PCI Express x16, two PCI Express x1, and three PCI slots.

    All boards mentioned above will be compatible with recently released AMD socket AM2 based processors and support DDR2 memory. The boards all share DFI’s Karajan, CMOS Reloaded, and EZ ON features too.

    Intel compatible LANParty UT products are limited to two new models; neither is based on Intel’s own 975X Express chipset. This isn’t too surprising as the 975X Express, which launched at the end of December 2005, didn’t offer anything new over the previous 955X Express except support for two PCI Express x16 slots with eight lanes each. With the new 96x Broadwater family of chipsets reportedly performing better than the 975X Express it doesn’t look like the 975X Express is an ideal basis for an enthusiast level LANParty UT board.

    Instead DFI has opted to use the new nForce 590 SLI Intel Edition for Intel users that want SLI. It will be named LANParty UT C19SLI32-T2R/G and is a new product on DFI’s roadmap as DFI hasn’t released any previous nForce SLI Intel Edition motherboards. The board doesn’t seem too fancy in terms of features, with two PCI Express x16, one PCI Express x1, three PCI Slots, six SATA II, and dual Gigabit LAN.

    Lastly is the LANParty UT RD600-T2R/G which uses the unannounced ATI RD600 north bridge. The RD600 will be coupled with the SB650 to provide two PCI Express x16 slots with eight lanes per slot in CrossFire mode, one PCI Express x1, three PCI slots, four SATA II, and dual Gigabit LAN. It’s strange to see DFI use the RD600 for CrossFire since the specifications don’t differ from Intel’s own 975X too much.

    Both boards will be compatible with Intel’s upcoming Core 2 processors and existing LGA775 based processors. There is no mention if the Intel boards will have Karajan, CMOS Reloaded, or EZ ON.

    The Infinity lineup is pretty straightforward but there are a few notable models such as the Infinity RS690-M2/G. It will use the upcoming ATI RS690 coupled with the SB600. The upcoming RS690 will feature a Radeon X700 derived graphics core and offer HDMI video output. There’s no mention of HDCP compliance on the board though. Another notable product is the Infinity RD550 CF-M2/G which replaces the previous LANParty UT RDX200 CF-DR. The Infinity RD550 CF-M2/G uses an unannounced RD550 coupled with the SB600 south bridge.

    Other than the two Infinity products mentioned above there isn’t much to say about the Infinity product lineup that isn’t expected. There will be an nForce 570 based Infinity nF570-M2/G, nForce 4 Ultra based Infinity nF4 Ultra-M2 for socket AM2 processors, RD580 based Infinity CFX3300-M2/G, Radeon Xpress 1100 based Infinity RS485-M2/G, a GeForce 6150 and nForce 430 based Infinity C51PV-M2/G, 975X based Infinity 975X/G, and lastly an RS600 based Infinity CFX1150/G.
