Full Throttle BOINC Roller
Full details of the next instalment of Kojima's staggering stealth series have been revealed and boy does it sound good
14:23 With E3 2002 set for its grand opening in LA tomorrow morning, more and more massive revelations are emerging in anticipation of the event. One of the biggest titles due to appear at the show is undoubtedly Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance, due for release on PS2, Xbox and PC.
Full details on the game have now been revealed by Konami and it's clear that Substance is far more than a mere update of the PS2 classic. The main addition to the basic MGS2 game is the ability to play through any section with one of several characters - and yes, that means you can play as Snake in the Raiden sections. Others playable characters are set to include Pliskin and the ultra-cool ninja.
Over and above the main game, however, there are numerous extra features. Firstly, MGS2 Substance will boast over 200 VR missions, familiar to fans of Metal Gear Solid on PSone. In addition, there are at least 100 alternative missions set to provide the ultimate Metal Gear experience.
Think that's enough? Poor fools. Squeezing every last bit of space out of a DVD, Kojima-san is also including five special Snakes Tales episodes, entirely unrelated to the plot of Metal Gear Solid 2. Fans can also expect stacks of Easter eggs to uncover, including a range of different outfits and skins for the various characters.
The Xbox version is due for release in the US this November, with PS2 and PC versions to follow. This is hot, hot, hot baby and we'll have more sweet Metal Gear lovin' direct from the show floor.
