ECS to be more than a motherboard maker in 2007

A Elit Goup vai expandir os seus produtos e entrar en novos mercados

After acquiring Tatung's desktop PC business and merging with notebook maker Uniwill Computer in 2006, motherboard maker Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) said the company will look to equally develop all three businesses – motherboard, notebook and desktop – this year, with the focus being on OEM/ODM business, according to the company.

Although the company acquired Tatung's desktop business in the beginning of 2006, ECS did not see a strong performance from the desktop segment last year, as ECS was not able to continue a partnership with Hewlett Packard (HP), which was a major contract partner of Tatung.

Monthly shipments of its OEM desktop orders dropped to 50,000-100,000 units in 2006, down from 200,000 units in the past, said ECS. The company, however, expects to collaborate with HP again this year.

In addition, the company's notebook business suffered losses in the second half of 2006. However, the company aims to ship three million notebooks this year, up from 1.8 million units in 2006, projected ECS.

In related news, ECS denied the rumors saying it will spin off its PCB business.
