A começar com 10 milhões de dolares e com este compromisso:

Ubuntu version 6.04, to be released in April 2006, will be aimed at meeting those requirements with a full five year commitment to provide security and other critical updates for servers. This also meets the needs of OEM distribution providers and ISVs, who have expressed strong interest in supporting free software environments but who prefer to be able to plan for releases and support them for longer periods of time.

Mas temos que ver se fazemos aqui na secção de Linux mais umas coisas com pés e cabeça. O B-A-BA mesmo que é o que falta ao pessoal. Eu incluido claro.

Ubuntu ... que dizer?
Mandaram-me uma encomenda da suiça com 10 packs do SO gratuitamente. tenho-o instalado em duas maquinas de desenvolvimento, um portátil (anteriormente FC2) e um pIV(anteriormente CentOS 4)... sublime.
tenho outra maquina com o CentOS 4, mas breve tb a vou mudar ... mas vai dar mais trabalho que estas de que tinha seguranças recentes e menos dados.

Ubuntu... definitivamente
 
E falando nessa fundaçao, ja viram este projecto paralelo?

Edubuntu aims to be an [WWW] Ubuntu version suitable for classroom use. The aim is to deliver a turnkey solution that enables time-poor educators with mid-range technical skills to set up a computer lab and/or establish an online learning environment with as few clicks as humanly possible, then administer that environment without having to significantly expand their technical skills. Centralized management of configuration, users, and processes together with facilities for working collaboratively in a classroom setting are its principal design goals. Equally important is the gathering together of the best available free software and digital materials for education under one distro

Edubuntu and Ubuntu are not meant to be seen as distinct projects; Edubuntu is part of the Ubuntu project, and they are both part of one development team that contributes to the whole. Edubuntu is Ubuntu with a different default setup.

The Shuttleworth Foundation's [WWW] tuXlabs are using an early version of Edubuntu called [WWW] Skubuntu, which is installed in 50 schools in South Africa. This will expand to 200 schools by March 2006. We dispute that we've installed the first prototype of edubuntu ;)

Imaginem as nossas escolas todas equipadas com ubuntu, isso e que era :D

Mas escrevam o que digo: se o Linux chegar a ser um SO mainstrem, usado por muita gente e onde o tipico utilizador comum consegue trabalhar, vai ser graças a distros como o Ubuntu :). E digo isto sendo um utilizador de "Debian Sid" (nao gosto da palavra unstable :p )

E ja imagino um dia ao sintonizar a tv: "e o arbitro apita para o inicio do grande jogo, UNICEF vs Fundação Ubuntu, pelas nossas crianças e pelo software livre" :joker:
 
O Ubuntu tem evoluido de uma forma fantástica mantendo um espirito invejável.
Nunca mais chega Outubro para ver o que vamos ter.
Espero que tenham a melhor distro a 64 bits. Isto para começar.:)
