GeForce 7950GX2 Details, Preliminary Benchmarks

card on stock cooling, stock volts, oced to 604/768 for all test...

Nvidia bans 7950 GX2 Quad SLI testing

IT IS a kind of a secret that Nvidia asked all its partners not to send out two 7950 GX2 cards to reviewers.

Because the reviewers might tumble the fact that using the two cards in a Quad SLI setup just won't work.

The graphics firm told its partners that the driver is not ready yet. Even if you you are lucky enough to buy or get two cards they simply won't work together, at least not yet.

There is no timelime but the 7950 GX2 Quad SLI driver should be available soon. Red-faced Nvidians are surely beavering away on it as we speak. We will let you know when we hear more about the issue. Nvidia does want to make things right this time.

For the time being, you will have to hold your breath on Quad SLI 7950 GX2 cards, so don't dash out and buy a second one. Not yet. µ

EVGA e-GeForce 7950 GX2: report

Just today I received two EVGA e-GeForce 7950 GX2 for testing. First impressions are following:

1. Card pwnz
smile.gif
And main reason is not the speed itself but possibility to work on ANY PCI-Express-compatible motherboard, not only NF4/NF5x0 SLI series.

2. Speed is just a bit faster than two 7900GT in SLI mode. Of course, GTX SLI is still the fastest due to much higher clocks.

3. Without proper airflow through case, card is quite hot. But not hotter than mentioned above GT SLI combo. But with open side panel and humble Coolink 120 mm fan (just 65 CFM) core temperature don't rise over 72C during testing.

4. Overclocking is not that bad. From stock 500/600(1200) MHz one of my cards reached 600/775(1550) MHz in conditions described above. The other one is still untested, I'll report later. For SLI solution with awful cooling system it is nice achievement, as for me.

Now regarding the results. These are results for plain review which I'll publish today/tomorrow on ModLabs.net. So no voltmodding, no CPU overclocking, no cooling modifications - NOTHING EXTREME AT ALL

EVGA e-GeForce 7950 GX2 (500/1200) vs. EVGA e-GeForce 7950 GX2 @ 600/1550 vs. 2x EVGA e-GeForce 7900 GTX @ GT (450/1320)

3DMark 05: 12372 - 12350

Information about overclocked 7950 GX2 performance, as well as comparison with 7900 GTX SLI combo will be added in an hour...

Quad 7950 driver to come at the end of summer

NVIDIA
announced its 7950 cards and as we said it will brand these as a single card rather than an SLI double, double jeopardy. Those ones are really putting ATI's X1900 XTX cards under pressure, especially because of the very low price. But there is still no driver that can make two of those cards work together.
And it turns out that there is more than that.
Nvidia won't release a Quad SLI capable driver as soon as we all hoped. Geforce 7950 will get its Quad SLI by the end of the summer. Don't kill the messenger for bringing this upsetting news but a chap from Nvidia confirmed this to me yesterday.
Just as Nvidia announced SLI and then it took its time to finish its driver it will need time to finish the driver for four cards. No conspiracy theory - the green company just wants to do things right.

nVIDIA 7950GX2/7950GX2 SLI (QuadSLI)

Final Words

After an extended period of using these cards, the only thing that we can say that single card prices will give X1900XTX a BIG run for its money, although you might think that this product wasn't ment to compete with it. The ATI X1900XTX is priced just a little bit lower, and the 7950GX2 proved to be a lot faster. It was not unexpected, as the card uses two GPUs, but we have to admit that NVIDIA surprised us all with the retail price of 7950GX2. Because GX2 uses SLI technology, the driver is very mature and there were no problems on this end if you use one card. If you are looking to spend around €500 to €600, look no further, because currently this is the fastest product on the market, and with a very competitive price. Since we were able to benchmark QuadSLI as well, we have to comment on that technology as well. Frankly, with all of the warnings from NVIDIA we were skeptical, but it turned out to work quite nicely. The drivers probably still need a little work in terms of correctly assigning the frames to the GPU for rendering, but the SLI AA modes work rather well as is.

Mas afinal funciona ou não??
Tá-me a parecer que o The Inq tá a meter outra vez os pés pelas mãos :P

1 placa so.
Obrigado a mesma.

[TONY - 2006/06/07] Hi, it is still a very new product, officially quadsli support is only for system builders, but here is a new driver specifically for the new dual-gpu models : ftp://www.xfxsupport.com/public/driver/91.29_XP_MCE_2000_forceware_intl.zip. Thanks Tony
