Google launches the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G with Snapdragon 765G, 5G and ultrawide cameras

The Pixels have entered the 5G era – Google unveiled two new models that will take its in-house phone lineup in a different direction. These two will be among the first phones to run Android 11.

Google Pixel 4a 5G

The Pixel 4a 5G can be several different things, depending on how you look at it. It’s clearly a 5G version of the 4a working on sub-6 and in some markets mmWave, but it’s also larger – this makes it something of an XL model for those who find the Pixel 5 too small.

It’s not that much bigger – the OLED display measures 6.2”, which is a bit smaller than the 4 XL screen (6.3”). However, you only get the standard 60Hz refresh rate.

Not only is it bigger, this phone is also more powerful than the 4a. Almost as powerful as the Pixel 5, in fact – it has the same Snapdragon 765G chipset, but it gets 6GB of RAM instead of 8GB. Storage is the same at 128GB.

The camera department is identical to the Pixel 5 – you get the same 12.2 MP main cam joined by the 16 MP ultrawide unit. This is yet another advantage over the vanilla 4a, which has a single 12.2 MP module. The 8MP selfie camera is nested inside a punch hole.

The Pixel 4a 5G has a 3.5mm headphone jack, something the Pixel 5 lacks. However, even though it’s larger, this phone has a slightly smaller battery – 3,885 mAh. It still charges at 18W over USB Power Delivery, but wireless charging has been dropped.

The body of the phone is made out of polycarbonate and is not dust or water resistant. The rear-mounted fingerprint reader isn’t much of a surprise on this model. This one is clearly more powerful than the Pixel 4a, but if you're considering it as a sort-of Pixel 5 XL there are several “buts” to keep in mind as we described.

The Google Pixel 4a 5G is priced at $500/€500/£500. Expect pre-orders to start on November 5, ahead of availability on the 19th of that month. Aside from Japan, that is, where it will go on sale on October 15.

If you pre-order one of these, you'll get the same offer as the one for Pixel 5 pre-orders: a free pair of Bose QC 35 II headphones, provided you're in the UK, Germany, France, or Ireland.

Google Pixel 4a announced with Snapdragon 730G and 5.81-inch display

After months of rumors and speculations, the Google Pixel 4a is finally official. As expected this year we are not getting an XL version, the affordable Pixel only coming in a single 5.81" size.

gsmarena_003.jpg

The handset is powered by the Snapdragon 730G chipset paired with 128GB of internal storage and 6GB of RAM. There are no versions with extra storage nor a microSD card so that will have to do it.

The 5.81" OLED panel has 1080 x 2340px resolution with a tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. There's also a punch-hole for the 8MP front-facing camera in the upper-left corner of the screen. With a display of this size, the Pixel 4a will easily attract users looking for something affordable and compact at the same time.

gsmarena_002.jpg

The back houses a single 12.2MP 1/2.55" sensor with large 1.4µm pixels and fast f/1.7 optics that it supports all the Pixel 4 features like Night Sight, Portrait Mode, Top Shot. There's also OIS to keep your videos shake-free On the front, we have one 8MP cam with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12μm pixels, but no autofocus.

gsmarena_001.jpg

The Google Pixel 4a packs a rather small 3,140 mAh battery that can be charged over the Power Delivery 2.0 standard at up to 18W. It's also important to note that the 3.5mm audio jack is still on board.

The phone is available for pre-order in the US for $349 while actual sales will kick off on August 20.

The handset will cost £349 in the UK and €340 in Germany, meaning the EU is getting it significantly cheaper than its former member. The 4a is also coming to in Australia, Canada, France, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Singapore, Spain and Taiwan. Sadly, the rumors turned out to be true so the only available color is Just Black.

Google teases Pixel 5 5G and Pixel 4a 5G

Alongside the Pixel 4a announcement, Google teased its Fall lineup of phones that will include two 5G phones. A Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 5G are on the way and we even got some pricing and availability details.

gsmarena_000.jpg

The 5G Pixel 4a will start at $499 - $150 higher than the just announced LTE version. It's unclear, however if that will give you more than just support for the next gen networks because no specs were revealed.

We also learned that the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 will be available in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.

Google promised to share more about those two in the coming months and we'll make sure to keep you posted.

Google Pixel 4a renders show punch-hole display and square camera cutout

Google’s midrange Pixel 3a duo proved to be a real hit with users who don’t care about the latest flagship specs but want a solid camera experience and stock Android. A new set of renders courtesy of @OnLeaks is giving us our first look at the upcoming Pixel 4a which brings the familiar Pixel 4 design with a few twists.

gsmarena_002.jpg

For starters the display will feature a punch hole in the top left corner for the front-facing camera marking a first in the Pixel line. The screen is believed to come in between 5.7 and 5.8-inches and the bezels appear noticeably slimmer than the current Pixel 3a.

gsmarena_001.jpg

Going around the back we see the protruding square camera cutout from the Pixel 4 line but this time around it's smaller in size and appears to come with a single camera. It also houses the LED flash and the accompanying sensors. Making their return from the 3a are the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and 3.5mm headphone jack. The back appears to feature a single tone gloss finish.

gsmarena_003.jpg

The phone’s dimensions are expected to come in at 144.2 x 69.5 x 8.2mm. There is still no word on the actual specs so we’ll have to wait for more clues. Keep in mind that this is an early render and is by no means the final product. According to speculations, we should see the Pixel 4a launch during Google I/O 2020 alongside the next version of Android.

Leaked Google Pixel 4a live images confirm punch hole design

Google will not host its annual I/O event, but the product launches will go ahead as planned. We expect to see the midranger lineup in two months time, and now we get the first alleged images of the Google Pixel 4a.

The front of the phone appears to have a single punch hole in the upper left corner, while the back panel comes with a fingerprint scanner, along with one camera and one LED flash, positioned in on a big square base.

gsmarena_0003.jpg

Perhaps Google is trying to unify the design across the Pixel 4 family - a relatively big square in the upper left corner of the back. Another reason could be this device is entirely fake and has nothing to do with Google - only time will tell.

Sadly, leaked renders from the beginning of 2020 suggest Google is really going for such an appearance. We expect the small device to arrive with a 5.81” panel and given the fingerprint sensor is on the back, the screen will be of the LCD variety. The phone is likely to have a 3.5 mm audio jack on the top and a USB-C port on the bottom, positioned between two speaker grilles.

Google Pixel 4a photographed again, have a look at the punch hole and square camera bump

The Pixel 4a has been spotted once again and this time there are more than a couple of photos of the encounter. The images show the phone’s new camera setups on the front and back, plus the latest iteration of the familiar fabric case.

Google Pixel 4a - notice the tiny selfie camera inside the punch hole

gsmarena_003.jpg

Google chose a punch hole design for the selfie camera, though there’s a noticeable mismatch between the punch hole itself and the camera lens. The tiny lens just looks weird (the size difference is clearly visible in the first three images).

Not that the back of the phone will win any beauty contests. It keeps the square camera bump of the Pixel 4, but it feels empty as there’s only one camera on there. There’s also a photo showing the phone with the case off, however the camera seems smudged in that one.

Notice that the fingerprint reader has returned to the back, which suggests that the Pixel 4a will use an LCD screen. Not pictured here, but the phone is supposed to have a 3.5mm headphone jack on top.

One of the Pixel 4a models is expected to feature 5G connectivity, that would be Google’s first 5G phone. The 4a phones should launch before the next flagship models, the Pixel 5 (which may be moving away from the square camera bump).

Não percebo, o bilboa4d é o mesmo, mas aquilo é electrónico ou Photoshop,?!
Google loves teasing upcoming Pixel phones with billboards in public places. This time the billboards are actually photoshopped, but coming from the very reliable evleaks the price quoted on them is still correct.

Latest Google Pixel 4a leak reveals new details

Last month, the Google Pixel 4a appeared in a video that revealed most of its specs. Now a new leak by the folks over at 9to5Google corroborates those specifications, and adds some new details.

The Pixel 4a will be powered by the Snapdragon 730 SoC and have at least two storage options - 64GB and 128GB. Both models will have 6GB RAM onboard.

Unsurprisingly, the Pixel 4a will run Android 10 out of the box and have Now Playing and new Google Assistant in tow. The mid-ranger will also get Android updates for three years, which is hardly a surprise.

The Pixel 4a will come in a plastic body and pack a 5.81" OLED screen of 2340x1080 pixel resolution, with a punch hole in the top-left corner for the 8MP selfie camera having an FOV of 84-degree.

Around the back, you'll get a fingerprint reader keeping company to the single 12.2MP primary camera, housed in a rectangular cutout with an LED flash. The main sensor will come with auto-focus and OIS/EIS.

For video recording, the rear camera will offer five options - 720p at 240FPS, 1080p at 30FPS, 1080p at 60FPS, 1080p at 120FPS, and 4K at 30FPS. The front-facing camera will only allow recording in 1080p resolution at 30FPS.

gsmarena_005.jpg

The Pixel 4a will have a 3,080 mAh battery under the hood, which will draw power through a USB-C port at up to 18W. But there will be no wireless charging.

Other specifications of the Pixel 4a include a 3.5mm headphone jack and Google's Titan M security chip. The smartphone will skip Pixel Neural Core and Soli sensors, though.

The source says that Pixel 4a will come in at least two colors - Just Black and Barely Blue. We've seen the black variant in a few leaks already, but we are yet to get a proper look at the blue model.

The Pixel 4a is rumored to start at $399 (€365). It was expected to be unveiled next month at the I/O 2020, but with the event canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's unclear when this Snapdragon 730-powered smartphone will go official.

Pixel 4a cases show the phone's design from all angles

The Pixel 4a refuses to stay hidden just as firmly as Google refuses to just announce the phone and get it over with. The latest leak comes in the form of cases showing off the phone’s design from every angle.

gsmarena_001.jpg

This will be Google’s first phone with a punch hole selfie camera, which allowed the company to slim down the top bezel compared to the Pixel 4. The design of the rear camera hump is unchanged, even though it houses only a single 12MP module and its LED flash (the premium Pixel 4 has two cams on the square).

The back is also home to the fingerprint reader as the Pixel a phones are the budget-oriented offering from the search giant (not that the expected price of $400 is exactly cheap).

You’ll be glad to hear that the 3.5mm headphone jack is alive and well on the top side of the phone. The USB-C port is on the bottom, flanked by two grilles – one of them might be decorative or Google may have switched to bottom-firing speakers.

The 3a model used the earpiece as the other half of the stereo speaker setup, but it had a thicker notch to work with. Can a big enough speaker fit on the 4a?

That remains to be seen when Google finally lifts the cover and shows us the Pixel 4a for real. We don't know when that might be, since Google I/O was cancelled. For now, we have leaks to tell us about details like the chipset (S730), battery and others – more details here.

By the way, the renders of the transparent case show a turquoise color, which shows up quite rarely. Previous leaks are usually “Just Black” and occasionally “Clearly White”. It is quite close to this color from early January.

É uma pena que tenha cancelado o pixel 4a xl (pelo menos é que andam a dizer por ai)..
As imagens do protótipo no ebay eram tao aliciantes.. maior display + 2 webcams + batteria maior..
ia ser um verdadeiro mid range de qualidade..
