Google Pixel Watch announced with 1.2" display and ECG, has Wi-Fi and LTE versions

Nearly a year after the first rumors about it came out, the Google Pixel Watch is finally here. It runs Wear OS 3.5, though that version is rarely seen without Samsung’s One UI Watch skin on top.

The Pixel Watch is available in two flavors – Wi-Fi and LTE – but only one size 41mm. At least you get a small and a large band in the box (we’ll get to the bands as there are several options that can customize your look).

The watch is equipped with a smallish 1.2” display, which peaks at 1,000nits of brightness for outdoor visibility and has an Always-On mode. The Gorilla Glass 5 covering the watch is dome-shaped, the only physical control is the button on the side. The chassis is made out of stainless steel, so it should be quite durable.

The Pixel Watch has a heart rate sensor on the bottom as well as an ECG sensor for more detailed heart readings. Google tapped into the expertise of the Fitbit team to develop more accurate algorithms for overall health tracking - the watch can even tell you when it would be best to take a rest and recover.

You can also take this watch swimming at it is rated at 5ATM water resistance (what you often see listed as “50m”).

Instead of a custom chip like on the phones, Google picked a standard Exynos 9110, which has been used on Galaxy Watches as far back as 2018. It has been paired with a decent 2GB of RAM (the new Watch5 Pro has 1.5GB) and Google believes the battery is enough to last 24 hours.

Let’s round things off with the connectivity features. As we already mentioned, there is an LTE version if you want to use the watch without a phone. Otherwise you get the usual Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) and Bluetooth (5.0) connectivity, plus NFC for Google Pay (or other mobile payment services).

In Europe the Pixel Watch (Wi-Fi) will cost you $350/€380, while the LTE option can be yours for $400/€430. You can even have it for free, if you pre-order a Pixel 7 Pro. By the way, the Pixel Watch comes with 6 free months of Fitbit Premium (, plus 3 months of YouTube Premium.

Anyway, you get a silicon “Active” band in the box, but you can also pick up other colors and other styles of bands to customize the look of your watch. There are Woven bands as well as metal and leather bands.

Marketing images of the Google Pixel Watch leak

Wear OS shot up in popularity after Samsung dropped its in-house platform in favor of Google’s software. But Google will still make a Pixel Watch, right? Apparently it tried, it was supposed to launch at the Pixel 6 event, but the chip shortage pushed back the release to early 2022. After years of waiting, a few more months doesn’t seem like much.

The design and branding have reportedly been decided – it will be called the Google Pixel Watch and it will have a bezel-less display with a crown as the only hardware button. Above are marketing images shared by Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser.

The UI has the Material You look and it seems that health tracking will be in the spotlight. This may include the integration of Fitbit services (Google bought Fitbit earlier this year), although one of the health complications seems to use the standard Google Fit design.

A Pixel Watch was forgotten at a restaurant, here are some real life photos

Some years ago someone lost a Nexus 4 prototype in a San Francisco restaurant. Now the story repeats itself with a Pixel Watch prototype, though this time the story takes place in a Chicago restaurant. It’s not clear who left it as no one went back to claim it.

As the story goes, the watch was found by a bartender and the photos below were shared by his friend, Redditor tagtech414. The watch is out of juice and there was no charger with it, so we can only gawk at the hardware.

The watch has removable silicone straps (20 mm), which were reportedly tricky to attach, but still leave the door open for customization down the road. As for the watch itself, the Redditor reports that it is much more comfortable to wear than a Galaxy Watch and that it feels surprisingly thin. The design of the crown also prevents it from digging into the wearer's wrist, overall, the watch sounds suitable to wear all day and night.

Google I/O starts on May 11, which will be yet another opportunity for Google to unveil the Pixel Watch. There are no guarantees that it will do so, of course, it has had plenty of opportunities already.

Google Pixel Watch color versions leak, along with price range for the base model

Google's Pixel Watch will be unveiled on October 6 alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. The smartwatch was already teased by the company back in May, and in the meantime a bunch of details about it have been leaked - including an alleged $399 price for the LTE-capable version in the US.

Today a price range has been outed, this time for the base model without LTE (Wi-Fi+Bluetooth only) in the EU, and this one will apparently retail from anywhere between €250 to €350. That's a huge range to speak of, but presuming the actual price ends up closer to the lower side of that range, it's basically in line with a lot of competitors - for reference, note that Samsung's 40mm Galaxy Watch5 starts at €300.

Price aside, we're also treated to the alleged official names for the three colorways in which the Pixel Watch will be offered - Chalk, Charcoal, and Obsidian. Those definitely sound like Google, and it's good to note that the upcoming Pixel 7 devices will both also be offered in Obsidian - which is Google's way of saying "black" in 2022.

The Pixel Watch will have a circular OLED screen, Samsung's Exynos 9110 SoC inside, a Cortex-M33 co-processor, 1.5GB or 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 300 mAh battery, and will naturally boot wear OS.
