Toyota revealed their tiny new Toyota S-FR concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show yesterday, and simultaneously showcased the vehicle in what appears to be a special Gran Turismo 6 demo. As confirmed by Polyphony Digital’s Japanese
PitStop blog, the little car will be coming to “the Gran Turismo series” in the future.
It’s easy to see why Toyota is eager to get the S-FR into video games. Designed as a lightweight, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive car with intentions to make “a whole new generation fall in love with driving”, it’s a car they expect many new drivers will first be exposed to in a virtual environment.
Although it’s not a Vision GT dream car, it is a clear indication that manufacturers are catching on to the importance of video games and using the Gran Turismo series as a platform for promoting their vehicles, long before they ever appear in showrooms.
Of course, there’s no word if the rest of us will actually see the S-FR in GT6, or whether we’ll need to wait a few months to drive it in
Gran Turismo Sport. We’ll keep an eye out for more details.
