Xbox Live: Halo 3 expansion coming, possibly on Jan 6, 2009

Xbox Live is reporting, "High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop!" -- looks like that mystery is solved. Additionally, Joystiq tipster Kyle C has found a date hidden in the teaser for Tuesday January 6, 2009 – see the photographic evidence after the break.

There is a building labelled traxus in the beginning.
-The camera angles are labelled
-Tanaga
-Lumumba
-Mbaraki
-Error (also flashes Sidiriyai and Makadara)
-Sign says "evacuate city of New Mombasa"

The rest is pretty self-explanatory.

We think it might be squad based because of the references by Captain DARE.

Looks like ODST drop pods to me, and there is the "prepare to drop" reference.

Mbaraki is Mombasa, so the cameras are showing views of New Mombasa.

The space elevator is intact.

There is a huge explosion with an EMP pulse.

I think we are viewing the moment in Halo 2 where Truth engages his slipspace drive in the middle of New Mombasa, destroying the city.

Could the expansion pack be the squad based game we've been hearing about, based on ODST troops, telling the story of Halo 3 from a different viewpoint, starting with the destruction of New Mombasa?

Hey, there's a thought - maybe this expansion culminates in the sequence of events shown in the live action movies, i.e . ODST drop troops getting the laser marker to tag the Chief as he's falling back to Earth at the start of Halo 3 so that Johnson can find him?

So this expansion would actually tell the sequence of events that happened on Earth between the destruction of New Mombasa and the return of the Chief.

12 Secs in, you can see a Covenant Cruiser above the AMG(Mercedes) building, then it dissapears at 22sec. Then at the end of 24sec you can see that those are machines dropping from the sky. Like the ones in the Matrix. Actually they look like sperm at 25. Just black. Actually they are the drones from Ghost of Onyx.

at 44 sec in you can see the Cruiser taking up the whole skyline again, and then at 48 it's gone, after a message in frame 2 in sec 48 saying that Evacuation is complete.

it also says TANAGA - looking online TANAGA is a volcano in alaska - it did look like ash falling from the sky

UPDATE: The video is now available via the Xbox Live Marketplace, and the synopsis reads: "High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop!" Pretty much renders most of my analysis pointless, but only to the extent where we now know it's NOT Halo 4, as opposed to Halo 3.5. (Possibly...). Was right about the palm trees looking like they were from the Ivory Tree map though!

As you know, Bungie has just released a Teaser Trailer for one of their upcoming projects. A different project from Halo:Chronicles or even Halo Wars, many believe this upcoming title will be the fourth game in the main Halo series.

The Trailer itself was not very forth coming, showing only pre-rendered footage and cryptic messages. What does it mean - who knows, but here is our take on this anticipated little tid-bit from Bungie...

The trailers starts off with a panoramic view of what looks like an Human-style city, similar to that of New Mombassa from Halo 2. We then cut a brief cut to a drop pod descending through the atmosphere, before we are back looking at the city. The Drop pod itself looks human, like what an ODST would use, but it's quite frankly hard to tell. Flood maybe?

The next segment of footage shows more of this city, but also cut's to different angles and places, including a desserted side street. You can also hear faint gunshots in the distance, and the whole place looks like it's a bit war torn. Also, the view changes slightly, with symbols and text appearing in the corners, making it look like you are watching a feed of some kind.

The view then pans up and you can see hundreds of the glimpsed at drop-pods descending from the sky, and what looks like a massive explosion emanates from the center of the city. There are some jarred pictures, and then the screen goes dark.

After a brief pause, the image from the front-page splash where the countdown was shows up, except this time it is animated and going through what looks like an eccentric start up routine (AI maybe?), citing a 'Metropolitan Disaster'. We then see the city from the same angles as before, except this time everything is in ruins.

The video closes with the words 'Halo 3' and 'Prepare to Drop' flashing on the screen, as well as one of the drop pods coming at the screen head on.

And that's it. Not alot to go on really is there?

It is possible that the city we saw is either on Earth, or another Human Colony, as you can see the English words 'evacuate' in one of the scenes. The Drop pods however also looked like they were UNSC-made, and yet the explosion that occurred right before they landed looked like it was a plasma explosion.

Many beleive that the next Halo game will be a squad-based shooter, which would fit with the drop pod images, but the rest is a bit of a puzzle. The palm trees you can see also look exactly like the ones from the popular Halo 2 Multiplayer map, Ivory Tower. The mysterious City looked abandoned and deserted before hand, so perhaps the invaders were 're-taking' the planet?

Anything is possible at this point.

Muito bom...a Bungie e o universo Halo começam a ser os "mestres" dos teasers e de um hype bem conseguido, mal posso esperar para ver o q sai daqui, em termos de história no universo Halo :D
 
Ainda assim, uma expansão deixa-me assim meio indeciso! Preferia uma coisa nova por parte deles! Um jogo diferente. A expansão para Halo 3 era o que eu menos queria. Não deixa de ser boa noticia, mas preferia outra coisa a uma expansão.

Difrente da serie halo ou um jogo halo difrente? é que ainda vem ai o halo wars que vai ser um rts.
 
Não estava à espera que fosse uma expansão, mas dado que é SP e parece seguir um capítulo diferente da história, não deixa de ser uma boa notícia. O trailer é muito bom, é o típico teaser para deixar algumas ideias no ar sobre o que se pode esperar.

Que história é este de milking? Certamente que teriam mais lucros com um jogo standalone da saga Halo do que vão ter com uma expansão, para além de que até agora só saíram 3 jogos. Não era propriamente o que estava à espera, mas que a Bungie estava a trabalhar no universo Halo já se sabia.

Estou muito intrigado com este teaser e depois de alguma pesquisa poderá ser um standalone ou um spin-off do Halo 3.

Uma espécie de Halo 3.5 ou Halo 3: Episode 1
Isto porque no passado dia 22 numa entrevista à IGN Brian Jarrard da Bungie disse o seguinte:

IGN: There's a new Halo 3 campaign achievement going up with this title update. Are there any plans to add new content to the campaign with this update or future ones?

Jarrard: We're always looking at ways to further expand and improve the Halo 3 experience, but there are currently no plans for an update to add new campaign content.

Eu adorava se fosse algo standalone, porque provavelmente será algo muito maior que um DLC.

Algo que também me intriga é a data assinalada.
Diz 01/06/09... mas... e se a Bungie propositadamente não trocou o 01 com o 06, como nós datamos por cá as coisas?

A Bungie já veio esclarecer a referência a Maddie.

Como noticiámos ontem, no teaser trailer do novo trabalho da Bungie encontrava-se a frase “Maddie, where are you?”. Naturalmente, muitos pensaram que se tratava de uma infeliz referência ao desaparecimento de Madeleine McCann.
Mas segundo Luke Smith, argumentista da Bungie, tudo não passou de uma coincidência.
“Como sempre, todas as personagens dos nossos jogos são ficcionais. Qualquer semelhança entre a vida real e as personagens dos nossos jogos é pura coincidência.
“Dito isso, o que se passou foi uma infeliz e não intencional coincidência,” escreveu Smith nos fóruns da produtora.
Brian Jarrard, da Bungie, aproveitou o site de fãs halo.bungie.org para esclarecer a situação.
“Trata-se de uma infeliz coincidência, não havendo qualquer ligação entre o jogo da Bungie e o trágico desaparecimento da menina.”

Engraçado é uma personagem qualquer que foi comentar o artigo e disse isto:

Claro, o nome e a situação de desaparecimento é pura coincidência. "maddie where are you?" Isto é mesmo pura coincidência, não é pra chamar a atenção e fazer puoblicidade gratuita ao jogo pelos jornais desse mundo fora. Só coincidências =)

Há gente mesmo desesperada por ter bons lucros...

Obvio que a bungie o que precisa mais é de publicidade para ajudar a vender halo... LOOOL ah com cada personagem neste mundo ahahah que melhores teorias da conspiração xD
 
Pois, tirando aqui em que durante seis meses o mundo parou porque uns pais foram jantar e deixaram os filhos abandonados num apartamento e um deles desapareceu, e como tal não tivemos direito a mais nenhuma noticia excepto às especulações de um grupo de pseudo-jornalistas, deve de haver muita gente por esse mundo que sabe quem é a Maddie...

As analises ao trailer revelam:

+ os drop pods HEV (human entry vehicle) usados pelos Spartans e pelos ODST soldiers

+ Aparece a nave do Prophet of Regret no background durante uns segundos

+ A cidade é New Mombasa antes de ser destruida, confirmado no painel ao nivel da rua que diz Evacuation

+ A destruição da cidade é a nave do Prophet a entrar em Slipspace (isto tudo eventos no Halo 2) para ir pro Halo 05

+ o ultimo drop pod deve ser a nossa personagem, que deve ser um ODST, sendo que isto se passa durante/entre o Halo 2 e o Halo 3

+ a data é 01/06/09, que foi interpretado como sendo 6 de Janeiro de 2009 (no sistema americano, normalmente o mês é primeiro, depois o dia, depois o ano), o que mesmo assim acho estranho, pois é depois da maluqueira toda do natal - acho que a MGS não queria meter o release disto (seja retail ou DLC) muito em cima do Gears 2, daí ser depois do ano novo.
