Product
Overview: Developed exclusively for Xbox 360 by acclaimed developer Bungie, "Halo 3: Recon" is a stand-alone expansion that extends the award-winning "Halo 3" experience with hours of new campaign and multiplayer gameplay.* The release adds a new dimension to an all-encompassing universe that gamers around the world have known and loved for more than six years.

The new campaign chapter predates the events that unfold in "Halo 3" and gives players a new perspective through the eyes of a new hero in the "Halo" universe. New multiplayer maps ensure that the award-winning Xbox LIVE experience of "Halo 3" continues to thrive.

Top features include the following:

  • All-new campaign content. The "Halo 3: Recon" campaign is an intriguing side story that takes place during the terrifying events leading up to the Master Chief's return to New Mombasa in "Halo 3." Experience the fate of Earth from the brand-new perspective of a special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), adding a unique outlook and new gameplay elements to the events that unfold in the trilogy's finale. While the feel of this new chapter will greatly resemble that of previous "Halo" experiences, "Halo 3: Recon" will require players to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before.
  • A new hero: Prepare to drop. Known for their courage, valor and, at times, insanity, ODSTs are among the fiercest UNSC soldiers, priding themselves on being the first unit deployed into hostile situations. While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, these "Hell Jumpers" more than compensate with their ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve.
  • Expanded multiplayer collection. No "Halo" experience would be complete without groundbreaking multiplayer content,* and "Halo 3: Recon" gives fans more of what they love. With exclusive new maps and full Forge options, players will find more multiplayer content than ever before with "Halo 3: Recon."
  • Ever-growing community options. Players will continue to enjoy all the great "Halo 3" technological innovations, including Saved Films, screenshots, Campaign Scoring and four-player co-op. All of the new multiplayer maps fully support the Forge editor, offering endless gameplay customization possibilities for fans.

TOKYO--Though yesterday's unveiling of Halo 3: Recon was not entirely unexpected, it did respark interest in Microsoft's sci-fi shooter franchise. Today at the Hotel New Otani next door to the 2008 Tokyo Game Show floor, developer Bungie Studios called a small gathering of journalists to dish out further information about its new project.

Halo 3: Recon

The new ODST hero drops into action.

On hand was Bungie.net community lead Brian Jarrard and his associate Luke Smith. "Halo 3: Recon is our answer back to our fans," declared Jarrard. "This is a game we felt like we needed to do. Our fans want more Halo 3 content and they want to do more in the Halo universe, and this is really our way to continue to support the Halo 3 fan base and given them something a little bit different than what they were expecting."
Done with the flowery rhetoric, Jarrard got down to brass tacks, describing what Halo 3: Recon is--and what it isn't.
"In a nutshell, Halo 3 Recon is essentially an expansion, but it is also a standalone retail product," he said, adding later there are no plans to distribute it as downloadable content. "It will be sold in a box available next fall and will include hours of new campaign content, and an experience from an all new perspective. You will be playing the role of an ODST [Orbital Drop Shock Trooper], and the Master Chief will not be featured in this game in any way."
"So the events of the trailer take place just as the Covenant blasts out of the city in end of Halo 2," explained Smith."So while the Master Chief is off on Delta Halo, which is where the original 'Helljumpers' [ODSTs] were introduced, you're back on Earth in the Covenant-occupied city of New Mombasa." When asked if the game's action will be confined to New Mombasa, Smith declined to go into too much detail. "It's less of a galactic romp than Halo 2 and Halo 3, certainly," he said. "[But] the game is certainly rooted in the city environments you see in the trailer."

Tough, but not Master Chief tough.

Like Halo 3, Halo 3: Recon will let up to four players play through a full-blown campaign in co-op mode. Unlike Halo 3, the single-player campaign will have achievements worth 1,000 gamer points. "In addition, there will be some new multiplayer content as well," continued Jarrard. The new multiplayer maps will augmented by all the maps from the Halo 3 Mythic Map Pack, which be released next spring on Xbox Live Marketplace. As has been revealed via a recent official Halo 3 update, the Mythic Map Pack will have its own set of achievements as well.
Then Jarrard and Smith shifted into rumor-debunking mode, declaring that Halo 3: Recon is not third-person nor is it squad-based. It will not be a Splinter Cell-like stealth game, but players will have to take a different approach to combat as their character will be not be a Spartan super-soldier like the Master Chief. This new style of gameplay, however, will not apply to Recon's multiplayer maps, which will support "traditional, classic" Halo 3 modes.
Halo 3: Recon is also not the beginning of a new subset of the Halo franchise, a la Halo Wars. "It's certainly a one-off thing," stated Jarrard. "From Bungie's perspective, this is just us giving back to people who are currently playing Halo 3 and keeping that trilogy and that saga going a little bit longer."

The Recon Box.

Jarrard also reiterated that Halo 3: Recon is also not the only thing Bungie is working on. "This is just one of a couple projects we have in the studio underway now," he explained. "This is the first time we've tried to have a smaller, nimble, more agile team of people on a project while the rest of the team tackles other projects." He also said that many Recon team members have been at Bungie since work on Halo: Combat Evolved began at the turn of the century. "They're at the core of the Halo universe….This a fun way for them to try out some ideas they've had on the back burner."

"So the events of the trailer take place just as the Covenant blasts out of the city in end of Halo 2," explained Smith."So while the Master Chief is off on Delta Halo, which is where the original 'Helljumpers' [ODSTs] were introduced, you're back on Earth in the Covenant-occupied city of New Mombasa."

5- deve tar a volta das 7-10horas tal como os outros halos mas isto ja sou eu a supor (;

Eurogamer: What can you tell us about the new hero character?

Brian Jarrard: The ODSTs are the guys who are in between the Master Chief level and the regular marine level. They don't have the augmentation of a Spartan or the super-reflexes and armour.

The game is a precursor to the events in Halo 3, so Master Chief hasn't come back to Earth yet. You're an ODST, the first person back in the city after the Covenant have left, and from there you piece together what happened.

Eurogamer: Righto. How long is the campaign, compared to the campaign in Halo 3?

Brian Jarrard: It's hard to put a number on it. It's going to represent hours of new campaign gameplay, but it's not a full, entire game like Halo 3. I think we have a lot of value on the disc.

There will be a lot of replayability as well; we have tons of new Achievements, four-player co-op, all the social features we had in Halo 3. It's a standalone disc as well, so you won't have to have Halo 3 to experience Recon. There might be a surprise later that we'll talk about, that might benefit people who have Halo 3, but it's not a requirement.

Eurogamer: I read in the press release there's going to be an increased focus on "stealth and cunning".

Brian Jarrard: Hmm. I saw that line. It's not to be confused with the stealth genre. This is certainly not a Splinter Cell; this is definitely Halo.

Brian Jarrard: I believe what that particular release is getting at, is playing as an ODST rather than an indestructible Master Chief super-soldier, there will be some different tactics to employ. It will feel familiar, but it is going to be a different gameplay experience.

Eurogamer: Stealth just seems a bit nineties, doesn't it?

Brian Jarrard: I think the trailer alludes to a little bit of what players can expect. You saw the ODST getting out of a pod in a Covenant-occupied city, so the odds are very much against you, and you're not a Spartan super-soldier - you're just a regular guy with some cool armour and the will to live and fight. So it is going to make players think a little differently about how they approach the combat encounters, but I certainly wouldn't call it a stealth game.

Halo 3 Recon Interview @ Eurogamer
