Huawei has announced its latest tablet today, the MediaPad 7 Vogue. This is probably supposed to be an affordable 7-incher, and it has the ability to make phone calls too. Why this trend of phone call-making tablets is catching on among manufacturers is entirely a mystery.

Though the five people in the world who would enjoy holding a tablet to their faces while speaking on “the phone” are surely spoiled for choice at this point.Huawei has been trying its hand at tablets for a couple of years now, but so far just with moderate success. It’s churned out quite a few MediaPad models, but none has emerged as a best seller. Yet. Maybe this will be it. Or not. We’ll see.

The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue comes with a 7-inch 1,024×600 touchscreen, a 1.2 GHz quad-core K3V2 processor made by HiSilicon for Huawei, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 3 MP rear camera with 1080p Full HD video recording, a 0.3 MP front camera, Wi-Fi, 42 Mbps HSPA mobile connectivity, and a 4,100 mAh battery. It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Huawei’s Emotion UI 1.5 on top. It’s 9.5 mm thin and it weighs 335 grams.

The tablet will be out in China before the end of the month, and other, unnamed markets will follow. It will be offered in two colors, black and white.
