Huawei MediaPad M6 appears on JD.com

Huawei’s MediaPad tablet line is due for an update and today we got our first glimpse of the upcoming MediaPad M6 on the company’s online store. The slate will come in 8.4-inch and 10.7-inch versions both of 2560×1660 resolution. Another common component between the two versions is the Kirin 980 chipset.

The smaller version is expected to come with a 4,500 mAh battery while the larger pad will come with a 7,500 mAh cell. Design wise, the new MediaPad features narrower bezels and there is no longer a physical power button like on the previous generations. There is a single selfie camera on the front, while the bottom houses a small Huawei logo.

We expect to hear more about the MediaPad line soon and by all accounts, Chinese users will have the first go at the tablets when they go on sale.

Huawei announces MediaPad M6 in 8.4" and 10.8" flavors

In addition to the three nova 5 phones Huawei also introduced its latest tablet offerings with the MediaPad M6 duo today. We have two slates actually - coming in at 8.4 inches and 10.8 inches. The only other difference between them is battery capacity.

Both MediaPad M6 versions come with LCD panels of 2560×1600 pixel resolution with nicely slim bezels (in tablet terms, at least). The larger 10.8-inch version packs a 7,500mAh battery while the smaller one comes with a 6,100 mAh cell.

Both tablets come with 8MP front cams and 13MP rear shooters. This year Huawei also added a Harman Kardon branded quad speaker setup for the larger tablet for more immersive media consumption.

The Huawei MediaPad M6 8.4 and 10.8 are powered by the Kirin 980 SoC and come with 4GB RAM while storage can be either 64GB or 128GB. They run EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.1.

Thanks to the new pogo pins Huawei is also bringing a keyboard case for added productivity. The slates also have USB Type-C ports, 3.5mm audio jacks and microSD card slots.

The MediaPad M5 10.8 is available for pre-order starting today and will hit stores on July 10. The starting price for the base 4GB/64GB Wi-Fi-only model is CNY 2,299 ($335) and goes up to CNY 3,499($510) for the top of the line 4/128GB version with cellular network support.

The smaller 8.4-inch tab goes on pre-order July 7, while official sales start July 20. Pricing starts at CNY 1,999 ($290) for the 4/64GB Wi-Fi model and goes up to CNY 2,699 ($392) for the 4/128GB cellular version.

Huawei outs MediaPad M6 Turbo tablet with more RAM

Huawei has added a new version of the MediaPad M6 tablet today, meant for the Chinese market - at least for now. This is the MediaPad M6 Turbo, which comes with 2GB more RAM, taking the memory amount up to 6GB. It's unclear why the company would launch such a high-end device (it's powered by the Kirin 980 SoC like the P30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro) with only 4GB of RAM, but that's exactly what happened back in June.

And now Huawei is rectifying that mistake, while also adding a cool new word to the tablet's name. The M6 Turbo also has two color versions that are much more exciting than the non-Turbo's Champagne Gold: Phantom Red and Phantom Blue. As you can see these can show some interesting patterns on their backs depending on the angle at which light hits. That's been a trend in the smartphone world for a long time now, and it looks like it's finally arrived in tablet land.

The MediaPad M6 Turbo still has the same 8.4" 2560x1600 IPS touchscreen like the non-Turbo variant, as well as the Kirin 980 SoC, microSD card slot, 13 MP rear camera, 8 MP front-facing camera, and 6,100 mAh battery. It comes with 128GB of storage built-in and runs Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.1 on top.

The Wi-Fi-only version is priced at CNY 2,699 ($377 or €343 at the current exchange rates), while the model with added 4G connectivity retails for CNY 2,999 ($419, €381). It's unclear if or when the MediaPad M6 Turbo will be offered outside of China.
