Intel readies Price Cuts
Intel is set to lower it's processor prices on coming January, as it steps up its attack against semiconductor contender AMD.

In week 45 roadmaps it is also announcing further products in its desktop range, presumably to help it make hay while the Vista sun shines. Price cuts will come on casualties of a 2007 Intel cull, with the 651, 650, 641, 640, 631 and 630 being absolutely slashed in price on the 21st of January.

Chip November January
651 $163 $84
650 $273 $84
641 $163 $74
640 $218 $74
631 $163 $69
630 $178 $69
541 $84 $74
531 $74 $69

Meanwhile, on the 7th of January, Intel will introduce the Q6600 - a 2.40GHz, 8MB cache 1066MHz processor. Again, on the 21st of January, Intel will set the price of the E5300 2MB 1.80GHz processor to $163, and introduce the VT-less 935 with 4MB of cache at $113.

A Q8800 is slated for introduction in Q3 of 2007.

Check this out too. The Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the E4300, will be introduced in Q1 2007 and will be discontinued in Q4 2007 with its life ending in Q1 2008.

The trillions of fanbois who love Intel's Viiv will be delighted to learn that Intel will go nuts in mid 2007 with ideas based on the X38 and G35 Express chipsets, as well as the GM/PM965 Express chipset.
