Intel X58 coming out 08 Q4

As we known, Intel’s next gen processor will be Nehalem, and desktop Nehalem will be Bloomfield. It is a 45nm process technology 4 core CPU, integrated with memory controller, SMT (Simultaneous Multi-threading) up to 8 processing threads, and w/ 8M cache. It has been revealed in IDF 08, but at that time no the supporting mobo is still being kept in secret.

Today we find out that the first Bloomfield supporting mobo will be Intel X58(with ICH10/R) coming out Q4 this year. Because Bloomfield have already got memory controller integrated, so north bridge will be simplified. The biggest point of the board will be the odd lay out, dual channel, Triple channel DD3 supporting and Dual PCIe 2.0 X16 or Quad PCIe 2.0 X8.

The north bridge have couples of new features, but Intel keeps ICH10/R as its south bridge, so there is nothing more to say about it.

Triple channel DD3!!! Oh yeah! Só espero que o ICH10R já tenha amadurecido nas P45 para não dar barraca...

Até um velhinho 975p "aguenta" 1600 fsb :D

Já temos nome para o 1º chipset para o next-gen:cool:

É pena ainda depender de southbridge e não integrar tudo. Se bem que por um lado ajuda no overclock e temperaturas (menos lógica)

só espero que sejam mais frescos que os x38 e x48, agora que perde o controlador de memoria. Tem é uma die enorme para algo que só serve de agregador de lanes pci-e e interface entre o cpu e southbridge-I/O

Com o controlador de memoria integrado sobra menos espaço para a cache. Mesmo assim, são 8mb shared, o que pode ser melhor do que os 2X6 nos yorkfield.
 
Os os chip7s que vao sair agora para a frente (p45 e x58) ainda irao ter suporte DDR2?
ou agora em diante é so DDR3?
o preco do DDr3a inda está um pouco proibitivo.. a ver se quando sair o p45 comeca a baixar a serio..


se isto tem controlador integrado significa que ja nao vai ser cmpativel com os CPUs actuais ne? e sera que vai mudar de socket, ou continua com o o 775?

Novo socket? Qual o nome? E tambem ponho a pergunta do viskonde... Será que vai ser compativel com socket 775? Se bem que não se pode continuar sempre com o mesmo socket... mas é lixado para depois fazer updates mais tarde se não houver motherboards boas com compativeis com socket 775...

Socket 1166 para o mainstream e 1360 para os mais Extreme(QX e servers),P45 ainda terá suporte DDR2 penso que o X58 sendo o topo-de-gama e ainda de uma nova geração venha só com suporte(pelo menos oficial) à DDR3

FOXCONN Renaissance X58 Nehalem Motherboard First Look

The crew over at Tom's Hardware is taking an exclusive look at a fully assembled Nehalem system that consists of a FOXCONN X58 motherboard and a Nehalem CPU. Details on the platform and the new architecture are already well detailed so I'll skip them. It's the motherboard that's cool and worth looking. That's FOXCONN's reference board powered by Intel's X58 chipset and ICH10-R southbridge, the same used on today's Intel P45 platforms. ICH-10 supplies up to four PCI Express x16 paths, of which two, are PCI Express 2.0. FOXCONN's Renaissance board also allows up to 24GB of DDR3 memory to be installed on 6 slots. With Nehalem, the memory is running in triple-channel mode (the name is pretty self explanatory). Initially the motherboard will support DDR3-800, 1066 and 1333 configurations. The Renaissance also has six SATA 3.0 Gbps ports, Realtek ALC888S 7.1 channel audio and a Gigabit Ethernet. Speaking to the other motherboard features, they include the usual heatpipe cooling for the chipset, solid ultra-low SR capacitors, debugging LED lights, clear CMOS button round the backplate and a six-phase power circuit design. Expect benchmarks and price information when the official launch date of Nehalem approaches.
