Investment firm buys 8.1% stake in AMD, $622M

- AMD announced today that a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company, an investment firm headquartered in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, has purchased an 8.1% stake in AMD. The investment totals $622 million, and AMD will receive $608 million after paying $14.6 million in related investment expenses, which they will use for additional research and development. AMD issued 49 million new shares at $12.70, which is slightly above the current market value of $12.62 at the the time of this writing.
Mubadala CEO Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak said, "AMD is a great fit for Mubadala's investment approach; a spirited competitor and innovator led by a strong and visionary management team. We see significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation." Mubadala will not receive any board representation or control of the company as part of the deal.
