Judgement Sales in Japan Halted Due to Actors Arrest

Sega has announced that the Japan digital sales and physical shipments for Judgment have been stopped following the arrest of actor Pierre Taki.

According to a news release, which was translated by Gematsu, Sega is still gathering the facts around the actor's arrest so for the time being it has decided to stop shipments and digitals of the game. Taki was reportedly arrested for violating Japan's drug control laws and was allegedly caught using cocaine.

Judgement, also known as Judge Eyes in Japan, launched in the country back in December and was set to be heading to North America and Europe this June. Sega hasn't commented on whether the game would still be getting a Western release following Taki's arrest.

As soon as Sega make a decision on what to do with Judgement's Western release, we'll be sure to update you all on the site. Until then, Judgement is still set to be heading to North America and Europe on 25th June.

Judgment Western Release Date Remains Unaffected Following Actor's Arrest

Following the arrest of Judgment actor Pierre Taki on alleged drug charges last week, digital and physical sales of the game were halted in Japan (where it's known as Judge Eyes), putting the western release in doubt. However, those doubts were unfounded, as Judgment will be coming to North America and Europe as planned.

However, Pierre Taki will be removed for the western release, and the character of Kyohei Hamura will be recast and adjusted. All screenshots and trailers featuring Taki have also been removed from SEGA's official channels, in response to Japan's extremely strict drug laws.

The good news is that Judgment will still be coming to the west on 25th June 2019, as planned.

Judgment's New Kyohei Hamura Actor Revealed in English Trailer

SEGA has unveiled the replacement for Judgment's Kyohei Hamura, originally portrayed in the game by actor Pierre Taki, who was arrested on alleged drug charges relating to cocaine use. The game was withdrawn from sale in Japan following the actor's arrest, while SEGA sought to replace Taki.

The new model filling in for Taki as Hamura is an entirely original one, and not a scanned representation of an actor, according to IGN. Instead, the created model will share the same movements as Taki's original performance, as well as the same lip-sync. Presumably, there will be a new voice actor in the role, however.

Judgment will be heading to the Americas and Europe on 25th June - the release date for the west remaining unaffected by Taki's replacement - following the game's release in Japan back in December 2018. Check out the new Kyohei Hamura model in the video below.

Judge Eyes Returns to Japanese Store Shelves in July

Having removed Judge Eyes (known as Judgment in the west) from sale in Japan back in March following the arrest of actor Pierre Taki over possession of cocaine, SEGA is poised to re-release the Yakuza spin-off in July. This version of the game will feature a new performer in Taki's place, as well as a new character model.

The new voice actor is Miou Tanaka, fresh from portraying a character in Yakuza Kiwami 2. Tanaka will play Kyohei Hamura, though the game's character model won't feature his likeness, only his voice. Instead, the character has been built from scratch, and will be an original creation (as pictured above).

The Judge Eyes 'New Price' version due to roll out in Japan on 18th July will be the same version that will be releasing as Judgment in the west on 25th June exclusively for PlayStation 4, with a digital pre-order via PSN granting a few days early access to the game. An English dub will also be available in Judgment.
