News: Avalanche Studios video hints at Just Cause 3 - ComputerAndVideoGames.com


"Just Cause 2 is used as an illustration throughout," reads the video description, "but the reference material collected will prove useful in many of our upcoming open world games.


"In fact, some of the skies that we captured in Costa Rica will make it into Mad Max, which is currently in development at Avalanche Studios in Stockholm."


Just Cause 2 was set in Southeast Asia, on the fictional tropical island of Panau, which was very much inspired by Costa Rica. Although Avalanche never explicitly states that its Cost Rican jungle research is for a new entry in the series, it regularly discusses its findings in the context of its importance to Just Cause.


"In the Just Cause games we're in a tropical paradise," says Andreas Oberg, associate art director at the studio. "And one really important component of tropical paradises is beaches and water. However, water is one of the most complicated things to simulate in movies and computer games. So, yesterday, we were down at the beach and we were recording the water in super slow motion.


"These are all really interesting questions that we're doing research about so that we can improve things for the future."

Just Cause 3 won’t have micro-transactions

“Following last week’s rumours and speculation, we also wanted to take the opportunity to address a few misconceptions,” Sundberg said in a blog post. “Those leaked screenshots were taken from an ancient version of Just Cause 3. Like most games, this one went through an exploratory phase where we looked at different control schemes, different technologies, different business models. Those leaked screenshots show aspects of that process, and in no way reflect the game we are making today.

“To be perfectly clear: Just Cause 3 will be available in 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. It will be distributed as a retail box and digital download. It is not a Free To Play game. It does not feature in-game micro transactions.”

But that doesn’t mean the game will launch and that’s it.

“Beyond launch, we are likely to look into DLC packs and items as part of our ambition to support Just Cause 3 and its players for many years to come, but until that time we’re completely focused on making the best Just Cause game we possibly can. Rest assured it will be a huge, fully packed and extremely rewarding experience right out of the gate.”
