SUSE 10.0 RC1

SUSE Linux 10.0 RC1 "Nürnberg" is ready for testing. Please note that this is not yet the final version which is expected to be available on October 6th.

The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program sponsored by Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. The program provides anyone with free and easy access to the world's most usable Linux distribution, SUSE Linux.

It has been uploaded to their main server, the mirrors will catch up within the next hours or days. An immediate download is possible via BitTorrent.

Mandriva Linux 2006 RC1 released

Today must be Linux Distro RC1 day as another popular Linux distrobution, Mandriva (formerly Mandrakelinux), announced today the release of the first (and probably final) release candidate of Mandriva Linux 2006. The long release notes provide all the details, including information about fixes to printing, authentication, boot loader, look and feel, networking and the usual RPM package updates and rebuilds.

A total of 283 bugs have been fixed and over 14,000 packages rebuilt.

Ubuntu Linux 5.10 "Breezy Badger" preview released


That's right, that's three, count-em three major Linux RC1 distrobutions released today.

The Ubuntu team is proud to announce the Preview Release of Ubuntu 5.10 - codenamed "Breezy Badger". The Preview Release includes both Install CDs and bootable Live CDs for three architectures. The highlights include: GNOME 2.12 - very fresh... released yesterday; OpenOffice.org 2.0 beta 2; X.org 6.8.2 with wider hardware support; an enhanced tool for easily installing new applications; a new tool which makes it easy to install support for multiple languages.

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution for your desktop or server, with a fast and easy install, regular releases, a tight selection of excellent packages installed by default, every other package you can imagine available from the network, a commitment to security updates for 18 months after each release and professional technical support from many companies around the world.

The final version of Ubuntu 5.10 is expected to be released in October.
