The news today for Microsoft and Xbox 360 has been tremendous. Microsoft started by reiterating that Too Human, Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War 2, and Fable 2 were making their way to Xbox 360 later this year. They also showed to no one’s surprise (thanks to leaks) Rareware’s upcoming titles the true sequel to the original sleeper-hit Viva Piñata, Viva Piñata Trouble in Paradise and the long awaited return of everyone’s goofy bear and bird duo with Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.
Everything doesn’t seem to be all rosy however. First the obvious, Microsoft published Alan Wake is slipping to 2009, and aging nicely into vaporware. Halo Wars which was announced awhile ago, even before the release of Halo 3, seems to have slipped to 2009 also as Microsoft hasn’t mentioned it once this year, and the Halo franchise especially would have been touted quite a bit at the Spring 2008 event. What is even more interesting is that Microsoft not mentioning Mass Effect 2 at all this year confirms what many Xbox fans have feared, and everyone else knew—Electronic Arts is taking complete control of the franchise from Microsoft, and the franchise will be finding its way to PlayStation 3 in one form or another. We have contacted Electronic Arts and Microsoft for comment with no reply yet, as both companies are busy with their own events this week. We will have more as it develops.
