Conceived as a trilogy (perhaps to continue on afterwards in future games), the third chapter to Mass Effect will hopefully deliver a thrilling and conclusive (but not too final ... we wouldn't want the adventure to end at just three games) capper on the Mass Effect storyline. Expect more explosive gunplay, more plot twists, more memorable characters, more heart-wrenching choices, more scenic vistas of beauty and majesty ... and maybe even some more sexy dancing! NOTE: This game has been confirmed as a title in the works but it has not been announced for any specific game machine. Please check back for official info.
“BioWare chose UE3 for the Mass Effect because they wanted to make an immersive shooter,” says Rein
The next installment of the Mass Effect trilogy will be powered by Unreal Engine 3, Epic vice-president Mark Rein has said.
The popular Unreal Engine 3 has built up a sizable base of licensing support since its 2006 release. The engine stands apart from its predessesors by way of numerous capability advances, including renderer support covering several complex techniques like HDRR, per-pixel lighting and dynamic shadows.
After using it for the first two Mass Effect titles, UE3’s impressive tech has convinced Canadian studio BioWare to use it as a base for the upcoming Mass Effect 3.
“BioWare chose UE3 for the Mass Effect trilogy because they wanted to make an immersive third-person perspective shooter game with sci-fi environments,” Epic VP Mark Rein told Develop, in a feature outlining the use of the Unreal Engine in Mass Effect 2.
Elsewhere in the feature, senior vice president of EA Partners David DeMartini agreed that BioWare’s work with Unreal Engine 3 shows off the technology’s extensibility.
BioWare bosses talk up third outing, New tricks coming up.
Speaking online this week, in an interview conducted at GDC, BioWare bosses Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka have a few tricks up their sleeve for Mass Effect 3 - the third title in the hit RPG series.
"We've got some tricks up our sleeves," enthuses Muzyka. "We have new tricks."
"It's also flexible, too," offers Zeschuk. "A lot of the features in Mass Effect 2 came directly from player feedback, and we totally changed what we were planning to build because of that feedback. So we knew we had to make it awesome, and we're going to change some of the features and some of the approaches we thought we were going to take from ME1 to ME2.
"We focused a lot more on action, and it really amped the shooter aspects of this game. It's a stand-alone experience, so you don't have to play Mass Effect 1. It's a great shooter. You can play it as a shooter. It's a deep, rich shooter with a lot of customization options, exploration and story that just make the experience that much richer. But it's a shooter at its core, and that's the way the combat unfolds."
More Mass Effect 3 news just as soon as we get it.
Resta esperar para jogar.Mass Effect 3 Being Shaped by 1,000 Story Variables
It's a simple concept of exponential growth: If you make one game with many different story paths depending on the choices a player makes, then make a sequel that continues those paths and adds even more, and then another sequel with even more paths, you end up with a hell of a lot of variables. How many? According to Mass Effect 2 project lead Casey Hudson, there's potentially 1,000 total story variables for Mass Effect 3. "Numerically, it's over 1,000 variables that we'll have access to for shaping the Mass Effect 3 experience for people who've played the previous games," Hudson said to PC Zone magazine (via CVG). "We plan out the larger plot points of the story from one game to the next, but it would be impossible to plan it all in advance. More importantly, we'd never be able to plan as many creative opportunities if we'd do it all up front.
"Instead, we record what a player has done in a play-through, and then we have all of those choices available that writers can refer to as they build storylines," Hudson explained. And if you were a fan of the more action-oriented refinements made to Mass Effect 2, be heartened, as Hudson said they'll carry over into 2 as well.
"In Mass Effect 2 we focused on what we love about RPGs: An awesome sense of exploration, intense combat, a deep and non-linear story that's affected by your actions, and rich customization of your armor, weapons and appearance," Hudson explained. "We had an overwhelmingly positive response to this approach, and while we'll make further adjustments to it for Mass Effect 3, we're really happy with how it's been received so far."
There's no word yet on exactly when BioWare plans to release the third and final entry in the Mass Effect trilogy.
BioWare is considering an "uber-collector's edition" of the game and took suggestions for a very exclusive and pricey item to include. Community Coordinator Chris Priestly used the working night vision goggles included in the 'Prestige Edition' of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as an example of the type of item they were looking for. This edition would be targeted at the most hardcore collectors and is not the usual type of collectors edition, such as those released for the first two Mass Effect games.
Uiiiii, uma Normandy em tamanho real? ;o
