Piranha Games and Crytek have announced that MechWarrior Online will use Crytek’s CryEngine 3 for development on the F2P mech sim. It’s welcome news for gamers who feared that F2P MechWarrior would translate to “cheap” MechWarrior. CryEngine 3 powered Crysis 2, after all, and I’m sure I can’t be the only one with visions of theMechWarrior: Living Legends mod for Crysis dancing through his head.In a press release regarding the announcement, Piranha president Russ Bullock said, “Working with CryEngine is a true pleasure. It is definitely the best choice for us: Both the character animation pipeline with the procedurally and physics based animations and the destruction system fit our goals perfectly and allow us to develop a truly unique AAA experience based on the award-winning BattleTech Universe.”

Mal posso esperar :)

The Dragon Has Life
Who of Us Can Say What it
Will Do Once Released?

Luthien, 2754: With production to begin shortly, Luthien Armor Works will commence construction of the first in a long line of 60 tonne DRG-1N Dragon BattleMechs for the Draconis Combine. Described as a long-range focussed ‘Mech capable of handling threats at all ranges, the Dragon has a ground speed of 86.4 km/h via a Vlar 300 engine, ten tonnes of Starshield armour, a Telos DecaCluster LRM-10, Imperator-A Autocannon/5, and two Victory 23R Medium Lasers.
“We are thrilled with the induction of our newest BattleMech, the DRG-1N Dragon.” A Draconis Combine representative was quoted as saying. “We are excited to be working with such highly regarded manufacturers at Luthien Armor Works.”
At 60 tonnes and boasting such a massive engine, the Dragon is clearly designed to let the pilot choose when and where combat happens (and likely how it ends). With the indirect-fire capabilities of the Telos DecaCluster LRM-10 combined with the range of the Imperator-A Autocannon/5, the Dragon will be able to bring down most foes before they even get into the range of its two Victory 23R Medium Lasers.

“Let our enemies quake in their boots, there is yet another weapon to fear in the hands of the Draconis Combine.” said another Draconis Combine representative. “Our pilots are thrilled to be blessed with such an amazing piece of technology. Like the warriors katana, the Dragon is in perfect balance. With speed, agility, and capability will we defeat our enemies.”
Originally designed to replace the Shadow Hawks in the Star League Defence Force ranks, the design was turned down. We do not know why, but from what we have seen, that may have been a grave error. The ‘MechWarrior test pilot told us of his experience handling the new Dragon ‘Mech:
“I was honored to be chosen to test pilot the Dragon. It is a very capable design in the hands of a true warrior. Its specifications including a 86.4 km/h top speed and ten tonnes of armor will surely aid us to glorious victory.”

While we can’t speak for ‘Mech pilots everywhere, we know that the Dragon looks like a fantastic design, and is sure to please those lucky enough to pilot them.

Boas!

MechWarrior Online aiming for 12v12
...
If MechWarrior Online isn't up for 12v12, technical director Matt Craig explained in the Q&A, Piranha will knock it down to 8v8--two 'lances' of four mechs per team. Fingers crossed for large-scale mechanised mayhem, everyone.
...
Piranha is also looking into the possibility of imbalance in faction membership. Lead designer Paul Inouye explains, "Certain incentives can be provided to join a specific House and there can be kickbacks in terms of lower operating costs if you are in a less populated House. We are still addressing this issue and will let you know in a future update as to our conclusion."

BattleMech 5 - Catapult

by Piranha Games Dec 28, 2011 10:00 AM PST New Terran Hegemony Heavy Mech Shown Off
MechWarrior Online Catapult Concept.jpg

The CPLT-C1 - A Catapult for the 26th Century
Hollis Incorporated, Corey, 2561:
This report is brought to you by Duralex – Ferrocrete Solid, and Ponyt Ale – Start A Friendship!
The Terran Hegemony got a new member today, but it isn’t a system, nor even a planet – the CPLT-C1Catapult was shown to a select audience as Hollis Incorporated’s winning bid for the three year fire support ’Mech contract. Weighing in at 65 tons, this heavy ’Mech boasts a pair of Holly LRM-15’s, four Martell Medium Lasers, 10 tons of Duralex Heavy armour, Anderson Propulsion 21 Jumpjets for a maximum jump distance of 120 meters, and a Magna 260 engine allowing a speed of 64.8 km/h.
Tests began with a trio of Catapults firing upon a Lance of light ’Mech targets 500 meters away. Within a few quick salvos the light ’Mechs had been reduced to flames and twisted metal. A second test showed a singleCatapult jump-jetting from hill to hill, showcasing its agility.
Skeptics, however, are unconvinced the purchase was a wise one. “Ja it’s got jump jets, but sixty-four kilometers is too slow for a ’Mech like this.” Said one visitor from Tharkad. “You always hear claims that ‘oh it’s not going to need to be faster, it’s a support ’Mech!’ Ja well when you’re in ze cockpit of one and it’s your neck on the line, suddenly zat low speed becomes a concern quite fast. However, ve have been shown these Catapults are capable of destroying a lance of Light, un-moving ’Mechs. I can certainly see why speed was not ze focus.” Ending with a chuckle he stated: “I guess it can still outrun ze hover tanks!” A nearby representative from Marik overheard this and supported the opinion: “Saying this thing can sit at the back and fire is all fine and good – until a lance of Commandos breaks through the front lines. What then? Become so much borscht that’s what. Stationary targets just shows how good they are on a parade ground, a gift for byrokrati. Give me a real ’Mech with a good mix of speed and firepower any day.
There was support for the new ’Mech, however, from Sianese visitors who stated: “It is foolish to build all ’Mechs for all situations. If you build something that is unspecialised, it will be mediocre at all things.” A delegate from Luthien gave similar praise: “With so focussed a tool, a man could do great things. There is an elegance to its usage. I foresee a bright future for this machine.
Time will tell who was right with their assertions, but for now it is clear that the purchase of this ’Mech by the Terran Hegemony has caused quite a stir among the dignitaries invited to view it.

:D
